Discussion 1 Raymond
There a lot of groups that we encounter throughout our life and the textbook states "Persons who are interacting with one another in a manner that each person influenced by each person" {Dr. Mary Kay, 2023}. Let us look at groups and how they can be separated into smaller groups or subgroups. With that stated they can be small or larger depending on what type of group we are interacting with like small groups will have three to seven people where as five is the average and will be better when a group is being formed.
It is stated that small groups are better when interacting with children especially when the child is having trouble with their vocabulary and other speech problems and when the children are separated into smaller groups who had vocabulary problems they did much better with their vocabulary skills, {Hargie, 2011}. When breaking down these groups it allows the children to get more information on what is being discussed because the instructor can explain things very slowly because the group is smaller.
Now Primary groups are formed to help other members of the groups and the needs will be met as far as inclusion and openness so let us look at inclusion and what it is define as "our need to belong and be acknowledged as a member of a group", where as openness is defined as "our need to tell our story and have it heard and respected by others-without this, groups work is not authentic" {Adams & Galanes, 2017} according to the researchers. Primary groups consist of gangs, our family, fraternities, and sororities and we can see that all of these groups consist of a lot of people with different ideas and opinions and we must understand that what we learn within our family as far as communicating is how we will communicating with others.
Secondary groups are not the same and different from small groups and primary groups in that secondary groups "exist mainly to meet control needs where as it solves many problems according to "Adam & Galanes, 2017}" and within this research it allowed these groups to understand what inclusion feels like and secondary groups are organizational groups, learning groups as well as support groups.
I constantly work within a group setting I have to work in a team setting where as I must interact with others to plan and give advise to people who are incarcerated and I must accept their advise and opinion and apply that with the intervention I give to these people so they can have a better life when inside and outside when they are released. Our work team is important for us all and we give each other sound advise and truthful
advise so we can work and be able to say is everything all right when we see and have our work team meetings.
Within my group our communication with each other is good and continue to get better each time we have our weekly meetings being that there are issues and we as a team listen to the problem and offer advise and give our opinion and each person listen and decide what opinion is best to solve the problem but the worker who has the problem must decide what they feel is best going forward.
This discussion was very helpful and will help me more in my work and social interaction with others.

Discussion 2 Sarah
Groups can be described as people who interact with and influence each other (Adams & Galanes, 2021). Groups can be large or small. They can be a social group, work group, family group, etc. Groups come together due to a common need and/or goal.
A secondary small group is a type of small group. It is set apart by the group’s shared desire to complete its goal (Adams & Galanes, 2021). A secondary small group is usually formed to solve a problem (Adams & Galanes, 2021). Secondary small groups typically have a shared interest or purpose. Secondary small groups include a small group working on a particular class or work project. A primary group differs from a secondary group due to intent. While a secondary group’s objective is to meet a goal or solve a problem, a primary group’s primary purpose is to provide feelings of togetherness and acceptance
(Adams & Galanes, 2021). Examples of primary groups would be family or friend groups. Primary groups tend to have a significant impact on the feelings and behavior of their members (Forsyth, 2020).
The secondary small group that I belong to is my workgroup. I work in an office with approximately 15-20 individuals comprised of military service members and government civilians. Everyone in this office works with victims of sexual harassment and/or sexual assault. It is vital that everyone in our office can work together to ensure that our clients get the best possible services. Everyone must be able to share ideas or lessons learned.
Communication is essential in my workgroup. We are going through a time of turnover, which is very challenging. Our previous group communicated well and efficiently. The current group, combined with a few from the original group, is struggling to adjust. Many of us that have been a part of both groups see the frustration that this has caused. Those from the original group are frustrated because the new group members are not doing things the way others did, and the new group members are frustrated because they are expected to do things the way others before them did. We are working through it, and I am sure we will learn to communicate more effectively as we spend more time working together.

Discussion 3 Kayla
Small groups are any groups consisting of three or more people. A dyad, which is two people is excluded from the definition of a small group, simply because partners tend to function differently. Most small groups consist of people who know each other and are working towards the same goal. Small groups allow each member to perceive one another during each group session. I use small groups when working with my clients. They seem to respond well when having other kids their age around them and providing feedback.
Primary groups would be what we would seek in order to feel a sense of belonging. Our family would be a great example of a primary group. You long to please these people and seek their acceptance. We want out immediate family to be proud of us, and we plead our case in order to persuade them to do so.
Secondary groups have one specific job and consist of people who are working together in order to solve each individuals' problems. These people do not typically know one another on a personal level and unite within group meetings.
A secondary group that I am currently a part of is my work "team". We are all working together to better our company and to gain insight from each other. We are not a group because we are friend, or chose to be in a group together, we are in a group because it is beneficial to each one of us to work collaboratively in finding ways to better each other. We share techniques that we use that might be beneficial to another employee. This secondary group is highly beneficial when needing advice or new ideas.
I feel that in my secondary group, we meet bi-weekly to discuss what cases we have worked on and how they turned out. We go over procedures and gain knowledge from each other's testimonies. We take turns speaking and openly listen to each team member to ensure they are being heard and that we are not missing any crucial information. One way that we could improve this group would be to meet in person more often, instead of virtually. However, we have a radial distance of over 100 miles between us, so it makes that a little difficult. Regardless of distance and time spent together, we show respect and appreciation to each other consistently. I honestly could not ask for a better work team than what I have. Sadly, a lot of people probably do not share those feelings.
