My organization is in the process of undergoing some changes and also I am worried about the limitations but tell myself that we have a year for this process so I can calm down a bit. It’s just that I feel a sense of urgency and can see the bigger picture. So, in the process of refining the topic I selected for my Action Research Project, I now know that the Employee Manual is the key to most of our problems. There’s a saying that goes “the fish rots from the head”. I’m not sure where I heard that but it makes perfect sense in regards to some of the issues that my company is facing. I must say that the feedback from the last posting helped me feel more confident about my ideas and there’s also another person who I want to exchange ideas with in class because the Employee Manual is the key to setting authentic core values of your organization.

The organizational chart that I created is of the organization I work for and it

identifies the central individuals who could be helpful with my action research project.

When considering the current relationships between these groups who are at different

levels of the hierarchy lack horizontal communication.  Also, different departments have

difficulties working cohesively to achieve goals.  When I first started, I noticed that there

were preexisting “politics” that existed such as each department focusing only on their

agenda so that there was no leadership to balance competing priorities.  The sources of

authority and power of these individuals is overwhelmed with day to day operations, and

while the Executive Director is open and receptive to change and different ideas, there

is little to no follow-up to see things through.  There is a high level of collegiality among

these individuals who manage and direct the different departments however the level of

collaboration is needs improvement.
