Assessment Information/Materials
You will be completing ALL five of the assessments on one selected student.
1. Interest Inventory - there are copies of interest inventories which you can print and use. If you would like, you can search for a different interest inventory as you may be able to find one that is more suitable for your grade level of student. The goal is to find out about the student's likes, dislikes, interests, etc. about literacy.
2. Universal Screener DIBELS - All of these assessments are timed and are one minute long. Read the directions to become familiar with the script, the procedure, and the discontinue rule as you may need to use this on more than one assessment. Print both the teacher copy and the student copy!
Kindergarten Placements:
Assess Letter Naming Fluency, Phoneme Segmentation Fluency, Nonsense Word Fluency, and Word Reading Fluency.
1st Grade Placements:
Assess Letter Naming Fluency, Phoneme Segmentation Fluency, Nonsense Word Fluency, Word Reading Fluency and Oral Reading Fluency.
2nd Grade Placements:
Assess Nonsense Word Fluency, Word Reading Fluency and Oral Reading Fluency.
3rd Grade Placements:
Assess Nonsense Word Fluency, Word Reading Fluency and Oral Reading Fluency.
3. LETRS Phonological Awareness Screening Test (PAST) - Read the directions carefully to know how to score and when to discontinue this assessment. This is also only an oral assessment - you will be doing the writing/scoring. Students will be responding to you orally. Pay close attention to the discontinue rule.

4. LETRS Phonics and Word Reading Survey - Read the directions for this assessment as well. There is a helpful section on the first page called Quick Tips. Again, note when you can discontinue this assessment. The directions state a couple of different times that the assessment should be discontinued when students are not successful or when the word lists are too difficult to read.

5. LETRS Basic Spelling Screener - review and follow the instructions on how to give this assessment. Here is a snip of important information on the assessment. Review pages 2-3 for the words and the sentences to be read aloud using the words in context. If you are placed in a 3rd Grade classroom, plan to use this assessment as if they are in 2nd Grade and follow those guidelines.
