Kant notes that it is never moral to treat any person as a means and not an end.  Thus, one person may never be silenced or sacrificed for the good of others.  In fact, you may not even sacrifice yourself for anyone one else and claim to be moral.  For example, if I push my child out of the way and let a car hit me instead, I am not being moral.   I may be good and kind and a loving parent, but I am not moral when I sacrifice my life.

Mill claims that I am moral when I sacrifice myself for the good of  others.  He claims moral people act so as to give the greatest happiness to the greatest number.  For example, the soldier who throws herself on a bomb to protect fellow soldiers is moral.

Read the sections in the introduction that discuss Kant and Mill (Utilitarianism) and then offer a your perspective.  You cannot just say they both explain moral in different ways and that you agree and disagree with both.  I want you to take a stand and explain what you think it  means to be moral.   Offer a good and clear answer.
