Reflection

A library database is a term given to a collection of information from published works such as magazines, newspapers, journals, reports, and encyclopedias among others. The online nature of these library databases allows them to be searchable using either the authors, magazine’s or subject details or specific keywords. Moreover, they offer citation information from the name and title of the author and publication respectively, to date and publisher of the material. The most commonly used databases include Opposing Viewpoints in Context, Gale Virtual Reference Library, Ebook Central, CINAHL Complete and finally, Academic Search Complete ("Research Guides", 2019). These databases offer both historical, current and peer-reviewed research on my course. For a better understanding of societal needs and issues, the topic is best tackled by understanding the past present and future factors relating to it. Moreover, the material is peer-reviewed and thereby applicable in my studies as the information is verified. These databases are utilized mainly through keywords which avails a variety of material to read on.

Social, cultural and ethical issues have plagued the country for decades before and after its independence from the British. Through these databases, information can be attained explaining the history and current issues plaguing societies and how they can be best addressed. Furthermore, the material is also categorized offering better detail on either social, cultural or ethical issues. Though these databases are diverse and vital, they do not always have all the information, and this may result in asking for assistance from the librarian. Though this is a useful resource that needs to be utilized, personally, I have not needed assistance from the librarian. Most of the information needed from these databases are open and accessible.
