Week 8 — Discussion: Defensive Technologies
Discussion Guidelines
Timelines & Requirements
All discussions can be accessed in the Discussions section of the course.
Why do we do discussions?
The Discussions provide a great opportunity for delving into topics as they relate to the assigned course material, but they also provide a wonderful
platform to learn from one another and to share our various opinions, research, and experiences. Please take advantage of your time in the discussions
area to connect with fellow classmates and your professor and enjoy the ongoing dialogue!
What are you required to do?
The purpose of the discussions is to actively participate in an on-going dialogue about the assigned content. Only substantive comments will receive
credit. Although there is a final posting day/time after which the instructor will grade and provide feedback, aim to contribute your
comments/questions on the discussion prior to this date.
“Substantive” means comments that contribute something new and important to the discussion. A message that simply says “I agree” is not
substantive. A substantive comment contributes a new idea or perspective, a good follow-up question to a point made, offers a response to a
question, provides an example or illustration of a key point, offers additional resources for exploration, points out an inconsistency in an argument, etc.
Students must post an initial response to the weekly discussion prompt and post the required number of replies to other students. Replies must be
posted in the week due. The discussions are for student interaction and input should be submitted before the week ends in order to fully participate in
the discussions. Students should demonstrate their own knowledge in the discussions and avoid copying and pasting from websites.
Post your initial thread substantially addressing the topic by Thursday at 11:59 pm ET•
Respond to at least two of your classmates by Sunday at 11:59 pm ET and give meaningful replies that advance the discussion. •
