How many posts and replies do I have to do for each forum?

Every student is required to submit two posts and two replies per forum.

How often must I submit a post and a reply?

Every student must submit one post and one reply between Monday and Wednesday, and each student must submit a second post and a second reply between Thursday and Sunday.

How long should my posts and replies be?

Each post needs to be 3-4 well-developed paragraphs in length. Each reply needs to be 1-2 well-developed paragraphs in length. I consider a well-developed paragraph to be between 8-12 sentences in length. There are examples of posts and the points available for each post in the syllabus.

I don’t see any prompts to write about. What should I write about?

I do not provide prompts because, when I did, students just responded like it was a short answer quiz. I believe this limits creative and critical thinking. Each student chooses what it is he or she wants to write about. A student can choose to write about a reading from the module, a class discussion, a video from the module, or any combination of the three.

What if I want to write about something not covered in the module?

A student must write about something covered in the module. If a student decides to write about something not covered in the module, the post will be deleted and no points will be awarded unless the student rewrites a new post.

Do I have to include quotes from the readings, videos, or discussions?

Each student is required to include quotes from the readings, videos, or discussions in at least one post.

Can I make up missing posts and replies?

A student cannot make up a missing post or reply.

What if my computer or internet goes down, and I can’t submit a post nor reply?

Students have three days to submit a post and a reply. If your computer or internet goes down and you can’t submit either a post or reply, you cannot make up the post or reply. Since students have three days to submit a post or reply, a student has plenty of time to find a working computer or internet access to submit a post or reply.

Can I submit a post or reply to the instructor via email.

I do not accept any posts or replies via email.

Are there ways to make up the points I lost when I failed to submit a post or reply?

A student is able to make up missing points by writing 5-6 well-developed paragraphs in future posts. A student can earn anywhere between 5-10 extra points per future post.

Are there any other ways to earn extra credit points?

A student can earn extra credit points by adding links to videos or short articles relating to the topic the student addressed in her or his post or by writing 5-6 well-developed paragraphs in a post to help make up points lost in a quiz.

I received less than full points for my forum grade. How can I find out why I receive less than the full amount of points?

In most cases, a student received less than full points because the student failed to submit the required number of posts and replies, the student didn’t submit three to four well-developed paragraphs in their posts or 1-2 well-developed paragraphs in their reply, or the student didn’t include quotes from the readings, videos, or discussions in one of their posts.

Are there any other ways I can lose points?

A student will have their post deleted if I feel the post attacks a person, uses inappropriate language, or creates a hostile environment that may silence other students and lose all available points for the post and will not be allowed to rewrite a new post.
