Discussion 1 (Linda)

Out of the five scenarios, I decided to look into the one involving Frank and Lisa. Frank works for county social services and the child welfare division. He provided a wide variety of services for case management including; parenting classes, individual counseling, drug rehabilitation program, progress monitors, visitation supervision, and court updates. (Martin, 2018, Page 2).

The main issue that was being addressed was the physical and emotional neglect that was occurring in Lisa's household, as wells as her alcohol and cocaine addiction. It is important to get to the root of the problem to help overcome these challenges. This could be related to trauma that Lisa has had in the past and is taking it out on her children or not being educated on how to properly manage daily stressors with children. Frank frequently checked on the status of how Lisa was handling the changes that he made to help her improve Lisa and her children's lives. It is also necessary to consider the children and their well being.

"Case management is a process in which the health and human services needs of a chronically or catastrophically ill patient are coordinated to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient and family." (Ungvarsky, 2020). Many case management issues involve mainly the patient, but this has a large impact on the children. I would also recommend the children attend family counseling. Yes, family reunification is important but it may not be the best situation for the children. It is important to consider their needs. There is trauma rooted in the children because of the actions of their mother. As for the treatment that Frank has already recommended, I agree completely with the steps that he has taken. Lisa needs to focus on herself for a bit in order to give her children the best possible situation. This case needs to focus on the health and well being of the children, as well as Lisa.

Discussion 2 (Emory)

First of all, after reading the five scenarios showed a variety range of how broad human services can be. I was very familiar with scenario number one. Sara works with Steven who is in hospice care. I also worked in hospice care during my first externship while achieving my bachelor's degree. During Sara's services with Steven, she spends one hour twice a week. Sara's first and foremost service for Steven is to help him be as comfortable as possible while being diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and told that he has approximately six months to live. She also is there as a support system to listen to him and encourage him to talk through his feeling of pain associated with his illness and family. Hospice care services in the hospice profession include symptoms control: providing advice on appropriate drug management for common terminal symptoms, patient body care, comfort care (positioning, bathing and shampooing in bed, pedicure care, skin care, oral care, passive exercise, and other treatment guidance such as diet guidance, rehabilitation guidance. The care and referral of the spiritual needs of patients and their families. Assisting patients and their families in the disease cognition and decision-making of essential treatment plans. Facilitating communication between patients and their families (Wang 2022).

The issue that was addressed by Sara was making sure that she made her client of the importance of his comfort, encouragement, and support during his terminal illness. She addressed the needs of the client Steven but maintained her limits on what she could do from an ethical position. Sara became the companion in a professional service manner that Steven needed with his care and feelings first. Part of this scenario, just through the words of the scenario, showed that Sara cares about what she does and makes more of an effort for her client. I have been in her position on more than one occasion.
