Cognitive psychology is defined by how individuals observe the environment, manipulate information, and respond based on that mental transaction. Try to think of a behavior that has covert components that cannot be observed. How might a researcher work to understand what is happening? For example, in order to examine mental math, a researcher might have a participant solve problems while listening to a lecture or a piece of classical music.
