Discussion Board Expectations & Rubric What You Need to Know The Discussion Board in Blackboard will be used regularly and frequently in this course to help you
develop skills in participation, critical thinking, problem solving, and communication. In marketing,
organizations hire for a candidate’s projected value or contribution. This requires thoughtful and
articulate participation and the ability to address key issues while keeping in mind relevant details.
Furthermore, marketing is not a black and white world. A silver bullet or single answer rarely exists.
Successful marketers learn how to work through ambiguity, imperfect information, and a constantly
changing environment. Keep this in mind as you respond to questions in the threads.
Schedule Refer to the Syllabus for weeks where Discussion Board posts are required. Questions will connect to the
scheduled topics. Complete your response(s), including a meaningful comment on a peer’s post by 11:59
PM on the dates indicated in the Syllabus (Course Schedule).
Grading/Scoring Refer to the Discussion Board Rubric for descriptions of how to meet the criteria for demonstrating
expected competency in your responses.
When typing an answer to a peer or the instructor, ask yourself: “Am I adding value to this discussion?”
Best Practices: Write your initial responses in Word or Google Docs so you can edit before posting. Block
time on the calendar to develop and edit your responses prior to submission.
Feedback I will provide specific feedback the first couple of weeks and within 72 hours after the due date and for
each original post. Feedback may include a need for revision and/or questions to build on an idea or
promote thinking. All posts will be reviewed using the criteria in the Discussion Board rubric.
Etiquette • Stay on topic.
• Respect diversity.
• Be mindful of tone.
• Review and revise before posting.
• Use proper writing skills, grammar, and formatting.
• Participate with curiosity.
