Discussion Board Forum 3 Prompt:
*Though assigned for reading in week 4, Aristotle is the focus for this week’s Discussion Board.
Like Plato, Aristotle is one of the most well-known names in rhetoric, yet his approach and understanding of rhetoric is markedly different. Let’s investigate his treatise further and consider him in conjunction with Plato.
For this week’s post, address the following:
1) How does Aristotle define/understand rhetoric?
a. Again, using his words here would be too easy, so you must explain his definition in your own words . This is an excellent practice for graduate level assignments, and it reflects a student’s interpretation of original works.
2) There are points of agreement and disagreement on rhetoric between Plato and Aristotle. What epistemological views does each hold and how does this explain parts of the agreement/disagreement?
a. Epistemology focuses on what is knowledge, how it is understood and attained (by what methods), and how fact differs from opinion.
b. Think about Plato’s use of Socratic method and the search for Truth.
c. Give examples to support your answer.
3) Why is Aristotle’s claim of rhetoric as an art so important to understanding his treatise through a biblical worldview?
4) You must reference specific passage(s) from the assigned reading using APA format. You may quote or summarize, but specific page numbers must be provided.
