Discussion Assignment Instructions

The student will complete 4 Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at least 400 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module. The student must then post 2 replies of at least 200 words by 11:59 P.M. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned Module. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 3 citations in APA (Current ed.) format with at least two coming from the required texts/manual. Each reply must incorporate at least 2 citations in APA (Current ed.) format, with at least one from the required texts/manual. Any sources other than the textbook cited must have been published with the last five years.

Discussion Question

When working with clients, we should work within our area of expertise and skills.  Discuss what areas you feel are within and outside your area of expertise in counseling, e.g., substance abuse, physical abuse, mental illness, etc., and identify your training. Use the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Human Services Code of Ethics to determine whether you are within and outside your level of expertise. Reference the code of ethics in your explanation. For example: domestic violence, substance abuse, marital counseling, etc.
