Health Care Policy
The rates with an overall population of 35.8% that is considered obese. Same research also showed 28.7% of adults in the State of Florida do not participate in any physical activity and this costs these adults more than $1500 per year in healthcare costs over their counterparts who participate in physical activity. Research supported by the Robert J. Wood foundation shows that the state of Florida is ranked 35th in the nation of adult obesity (2017). Additionally, by increasing awareness in physical activity by adults the hope is to emulate behaviors that will be observed by children and increase their rates of activity and maintain safe, healthy weights. Sedentary lifestyles are increasing with many means of employment occurring through computers and decreasing physical movement and a primary reason why hypertension, stroke and myocardial infarction are increasing (Why Walking, 2017). Additionally many leisure activities require minimal activity and promote sitting and lying.
The media plays an integral role in programs like Zika free Florida and Tobacco Free Florida. These initiatives are used to ensure that the public is made aware of the health care concerns that are affecting their immediate environment and are duly informed to ensure that they take the necessary precautions to ensure that they are safe from particular health care concerns that could be a potential risk toward them. Additionally, this is achieved in a number of ways, the media in tandem with health care organizations and government agencies put out releases on how to curb the spread of the vector in the case of the Zika Free Florida initiative.

Health Care Policy
A health policy that needs to be highlight is obesity. Obesity is a growing problem in all of our communities and increasing the ability for adults to lead a healthy and fruitful life. Obesity leads to several health challenges such as heart disease, diabetes, and can even increase the incidence of cancer. Women that are overweight have a higher incidence of uterine cancer that requires a hysterectomy or breast cancer requiring mastectomy. Educating this population through health policies and advocacy can help decrease the epidemic of obesity. The difficult part of the adult obesity issue is that until an individual desires a need to change, they will not. This is where social media can make a difference.
Incorporating awareness and education into the changes in the community may provide some of the people that face this battle the information as to how to make the change. APNs can use social media to spread knowledge and information by providing the ability for individuals to contact an authority on nutrition and exercise. More importantly, media outlets or organizations do not see themselves as a part of, or contributing to the public health system. As this chapter discusses; however, the media plays a number of roles in educating the public about health issues and has a responsibility to report accurate health and science information to the public.
As social media has evolved, APNs have established a way to tap into more in the community to get their message across. Nurses have created Facebook pages and networking sites to educate the community on various topics. Media-sharing sites, such as YouTube, offer a large selection of social media tools that are optimized for viewing, sharing, and embedding digital media content on the Web to attract attention. They also provide features that are typically found on other types of social media sites, such as profiles, connections, comments, and private messaging.

The Role of the Media in Public Health
Robert Alonso
Tobacco Free Florida (TFF) was launched in 2007 following the Florida voters’ acceptance of a constitutional amendment. TFF’ s main aim is to ensure that there is education about the use of tobacco and prevent its use. The media has played a huge role in tobacco education and prevention. Tobacco quit lines and web-based treatments are being used to reduce the level of tobacco use. Television advertising has been widely used to promote telephone quit lines, and there is strong evidence for its effectiveness in the United States and internationally (Duke, Mann, Davis, & Allen, 2014). The TFF team including the Alma DBB and their partners have used different media formats to reach out to smokers.
With the Zika Free Florida, the media has played a great role too in preventing the spread of the Zika Virus. NEHA uses Facebook and twitter to provide information and updates to the affected people and environmental health professionals.
Substance Abuse
Substance abuse is a serious public health issue which needs to be highlighted in the health policy. Drugs and alcohol are among the substances which have destroyed the lives of the youths. Youths self-medicate themselves using illegal substances and alcohol. This is affecting the future generation hence it is a matter to be taken seriously.
Social media can be used as a good tool to prevent substance abuse especially among the youths. The media can be used to disseminate information about the drugs and alcohol by giving threats of using the substances so that people can change their behaviors. Using the internet, magazines, billboards, and newspapers, it will be so easy to spread the message on the effects of substance abuse. Media campaigns should be widely used. hey often address specific substances with the aim of reducing use and raising awareness about the associated problems (Ferri, Allara, & Gasparrini, 2013). The media has the ability to propagate short, simple. and focused information about substance abuse.

There are various health programs in Florida which are aimed at promoting health in the local population. For this discussion, I will discuss the Tobacco Free Florida program and how the media plays an important part in promoting awareness among the citizens. Tobacco use is known to cause different types of cancer which eventually leads to death. In fact, according to various research institutions in Florida, tobacco use in the leading cause of cancer-related deaths (Eifert et al., 2017). Due to this impact, there are various laws which have been enacted to counter the use of tobacco-related products in the states, but media plays a vital part in spreading this information to the people.
One of the public health issues which need to be highlighted in the public health policy is the compensation of the victims of tobacco-related health complications and deaths by the tobacco producing companies. This will help in reducing the company’s production and hence lower the amount of tobacco use in the state. I think there should be a policy to prohibit advertisement and promotion of tobacco-related products, and this will help in reducing the number of people getting access or being persuaded to start using tobacco products.
Media plays and can play a very important part in promoting health education programs, for instance, social media can be used to educate especially the youth on the impact and results of using tobacco-related products (Heath, et, al 2016). Photos and other resultant causes of tobacco can be spread using social media to reach many young people who are venerable to joining the use of tobacco-related products. Through this was, social media will be promoting awareness among the people and thus reduce the number of people affected by tobacco-related diseases.
