First Response

Gerrymandering is a very hard topic to discuss upon as there are many factors that play a vital role into it and have affliction upon it. Some say this is not real while others state its for a political agenda to have an advantage over others. The demographic and geographical is also an huge influence upon redrawn of districts as well as its always shaped during election time. During presidential votes for 2010 and 2020 the two presidents involved were Obama and Trump which the districts were alter according to the city's political stance. Depending on the race and even location since Houston is on a scale of Republican and Democrats one can say the districts were drawn in favor for Obama and the same for Trump. Usually the drawn districts are in favor on who holds more power on the committee or anything with political power. This affects the voters especially as when districts are drawn there goal is to cut them out and seem like a particular party receives less votes than the other. Altering the ratio of the votes in favor on whos going to be running especially who holds power in the political stance such as a democrat will favor their own side.

Texas is becoming more diverse by everyday as people from different areas migrate to establish a family within Texas which also means there political stance can alter on either blue to red. Historically in the past Texas has been a red state the longest, social point will depend on location such as city's are democratic while rural areas are republican, political and economic also play as a vital role as if a certain location is not receiving as much revenue to help the people they will change their minds on who to vote next. Cultural forces is the same as social as groups of people can be closed minded and just vote for a particular party despite never listening to others and being completely bias. Gerrymandering happens in every state is just depends on who has control of the city/committee and how likely they are to be swayed with cash for their own beneficial gain.

Second Response

Like any other state in America, Texas is also prone to gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is the legislative power to draw and redraw district maps and mainly for the political class's interest. I am a resident of Brownsville, Texas, and gerrymandering has led to the creation of new districts and influenced the political structure of Texas. The Republican Party seems to have a good win in Texas by taking up the majority of the Congressional seats, State House delegation, The Senate, and the States' Board of Education. In the 2020 elections, the Republican Party won twenty-two seats, and the Democratic Party got fourteen seats in Congress. However, after redistricting, the Republican Party would gain three seats, with the Democratic Party losing one seat. The Republican Party won seventy-six seats for the State House delegates, and the Democratic Party got seventy-four seats. However, the Republican Party would gain nine seats after redistricting, with the Democratic Party losing nine seats. For the House of Senate, the Republican Party won sixteen seats while the Democratic Party got fifteen seats. However, after redistricting, the Republican Party would gain three seats, with the Democratic Party losing three seats. For the State Board of Education, the Republican Party won eight seats, and the Democratic Party got seven seats. However, after redistricting, the Republican Party would gain one seat, with the Democratic Party losing one seat.

The political class of the State of Texas has been on the post light numerous times for discriminative and selfish politically motivated gerrymandering. In most cases, people of color and incarcerated individuals have been discriminated against or used as the basis for creating new districts. Even though a considerable portion of gerrymandering is politically motivated, leaders should be mindful and considerate of the individuals affected by redistricting and how gerrymandering would help improve their lives.
