Discussion Board Forum 2 Instructions
In Module/Week 6, you must complete a Discussion Board Forum. Upon completing Module/Week 6 Reading & Study items, you will be well equipped to respond with a thread and at least 1 reply that shows your ability to understand and practice reading, writing, and rhetoric within the context of a biblical worldview; write with clarity; recognize standard usage in English grammar; and apply knowledge of sentence structure to basic sentence editing and revision. (Syllabus MLOs: A, C, E, F, G and Module/Week 6 LOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
This course utilizes the Post-First feature in all Discussion Board Forums. This means you will only be able to read and interact with your classmates’ threads after you have submitted your thread in response to the provided prompt. Assignment
In Module/Week 6, you will write a 250–300-word Visual Argument critique (Part I) and a 250–300-word response to a classmate’s thread (Part II). Please note the word count does not include citations.
Discussion Board Forum 2 Prompt
Part I: After reading pages 83–97 in your Practical Argument textbook and pages 83–87 in your A Writer’s Reference textbook, write a fully developed critical response to the visual on page 93 in your Practical Argument textbook. The original blog post link has also been included below and in the Reading & Study folder so you can read the fine print that may be illegible in the textbook.

As you compose your Visual Argument critique,
a. Review the “Template for Responding to Visual Arguments” on page 97.
b. Be sure to consider the artist’s means of persuasion.
c. End your visual analysis with an assessment of the effectiveness of Londa’s visual.
d. Cite all references—including the visual—in the documentation style related to your major course of study (MLA, APA, or Turabian).
e. Include 250–300 words. (This parameter helps to promote writing that is thorough yet concise enough to permit your classmates to read all the submissions.)
f. Write MLA, APA, or Turabian in the title of your thread as follows: Title–Citation style (e.g., “Silence the Violence: A Visual Argument Critique – APA”). Check your A Writer’s Reference to verify your citations.
g. Review the Discussion Board Forum Grading Rubric before submitting.
Part II: After you have completed your thread, read at least 1 other classmate’s thread and submit a reply that is 250–300 words.
When composing your reply:
a. Note that statements such as, “I like what you said” or “I disagree with your comment,” do not count as replies. You must explain why you liked or disliked the thread by adding additional thoughts or ideas if you agreed with the author or by providing alternative ideas or thoughts when you disagree.
b. Use the principles of argument either to rebut or to support the original writer’s point.
c. Keep in mind that, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with your classmates’ opinions, you must be respectful and courteous in every interaction. For more on proper discussion, consult the netiquette policy found in the Student Expectations link of this course.
d. Cite all references in the documentation style related to your major course of study (Current MLA, APA, or Turabian).
e. Include 250–300 words (does not include citations)
f. Review the Discussion Board Forum Grading Rubric before submitting. Part II submission in the Discussion Board 1 forum by 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday of Module/Week 6.
