Discussion 8 - Applied and Evaluation Research

In the K-12 setting the Texas Education Agency (TEA) evaluates teachers to ensure that they are meeting specific standards. TEA Educator standards are for elementary, middle, and secondary school. The standards are listed in the Texas Administrative Code. The Texas Administrative Code uses the Commissioner’s Rules concerning Educator Standards, Subchapter AA, Teacher Standards.

I selected the standard because I am a certified teacher, and I am familiar with educator standards and I am appraised on a yearly basis via T-TESS. T-TESS is an appraisal system based on observable and measurable goals.

T-TESS has an evaluation cycle (including: pre-conference, observation, post-conference) which asks practical questions and is performed in real-life situations relating to teacher practice and the measurement of student growth.

As a teacher I must meet the teacher standards, and I must achieve the measurable goals that I select. I have to set personal goals for myself as a teacher, and goals that I agree to help my students meet.
