Unit 5 discussion responses

1. There are two main topics that I seem to gravitate towards most based on my daily life which include customer service and media. Working in customer service I am constantly researching changes in the field from a technical perspective looking for ways to improve our business through omni channel communication, new training seminar and techniques, building morale, optimizing the workforce, constructing a solid culture, the list goes on. Another topic related to customer service that interests me is the changes that it has seen over the years. Thinking back to prior years, much of our exchanges took place in brick and mortar establishments, but nowadays almost everything you could need can be found, bought, and shipped to you via an online platform. What effect does this have on the customer service experience, mom and pop stores or even big companies like Walmart and Macy’s, and how is it impacting interaction between people? Another area I often look into is media. I am always vigilant about the content my children watch and curious about the effects media, including television and social media, has on children. For the upcoming paper, I believe this will be my focus. It is of strongest interest to me at the moment.

2. There are a few topics that I am considering for my research topic. I have worked with people my entire life. I have noticed over the years that not everyone is treated the same. While people say that they treat everyone equally I have noticed that is not always true. My first topic would be inequality. The second topic that I am considering for my research paper is the if students are doing better in online classes or in the actual classrooms. I started my academic career in classrooms but it wasn't until the online classes that I was able to really having a better academic growth.

3. As I was looking over topics, there was a few that stood out to me, such as youth culture and class conflict and inequality. At my currently job, i work with youth in a low income community. Youth culture is a very interesting topic to me because, the youth can be part of many other subcultures within themselves, and it influences they way they dress, their attitude, the music they listen to. Being able to study these different types of cultures, would also give us insight on how the media affects them, since they are the biggest consumer's of media. In regards to class conflict and inequality, I found this topic interesting because of the community that I work in. Classes are treated differently in every society and because it is so deeply woven into our society, it is very difficult to eliminate them. Being able to study the class and geographical segregation would give us an insight on how to find ways to help improve those low income communities that are deeply suffering. 

4. I narrow my possibilities by doing a research topic related to my major. I chose to focus on the importance of physical education. Being active throughout your life provides many benefits such as building muscular endurance, strength, and builds more confidence. Throughout the research i will discuss why exercising at all stages of your life will increase your mental, physical and spiritual well-being.

5. The topic I want to write about for the research paper is about college students and mental health. If I am able to I want to really get in depth and research college students who work full time as well as being in school full time.  I want to see the statistics on how they got through it and how it affected their mental health, maybe causing anxiety or depression. At first, I knew I wanted to write about college kids and mental health but that could be about anything  which is way too broad. Another possibility that I am thinking about writing about is online courses vs in class courses. I want to see if there are any statistics about both that show what is better for majority of people. I am leaning more towards the first option because I am more interested in it and am going through it as well.
