Conflict within Teams

I was once working in a team of five members. We were doing so well until one of the team members started doing well until the team leader started dominating all conversations. For all the topics and discussions we held he was the only one having the opportunity to air his views as he let no one else. It reached a time that we saw no importance of remaining members of the team as we were not given a chance to give contributions and we decided not to attend any meetings. The main source of this conflict was poor communication. Our team leader lacked the knowledge that communication is two ways involving talking as well as listening. He denied us a chance to talk and he could not listen to us. This conflict could only be resolved by sending someone to talk to the team leader and if he failed to change then another team leader to be chosen.

Creativity in teams

The three indices of creativity are talent, technology, and tolerance (Florida, 2003). In regard to talent I think am good since I am this person who will always find a new way of dealing with problems so as to get a solution. I don’t think I am tolerant since I am so impatience especially with people who seem to be intentional in their wrongdoing. Finally, in terms of talent I am exemplar as I always find a unique way of getting solutions.

I can use a number of strategies to improve creativity. One is widening my information sphere. I should associate with more stimuli which will help me give attention even to things that I regard irrelevant which can help me get more ideas that are unique and original. Secondly I can use the hierarchical list method whereby I list down solutions to problems then choose those that are common from the list which I put in one category. In addition I find more solutions which will build up on other solution categories. All these will help me come up with high quality solutions. Lastly is getting out of my comfort zone by carrying out more physical activities which is said to enhance creativity. Lots of body movement activates processes that are abstract hence helping in overcoming mere fixations.
