Topic One: Purpose of Statistical Process Control

Statistical process control refers to the utilization of statistical techniques in order to control a production method or a process. As such, statistical process tools and procedures can aid individuals and organizations in monitoring process behavior, finding solution for production problems as well as discovering issues in internal systems. As highlighted by (Shmula.com, 2017), Statistical Process Control (SPC),is a technique utilized by firms for the identification of faults in their production line as well as ensuring that the final output has the acceptable quality. Additionally, the technique utilizes statistical methodologies that provide adequate overview regarding the current state of the organizational production facilities. Furthermore, proper utilization of the technique aid firms in the maximization of the final output and it also leads to reduction of different types of wastes.

Importance of Statistical Process Control

Statistical Process Control is important in a number of ways. One of its importance is that it results to reduced waste, reworking and warranty claims. This is the case because Statistical Process Control is a technique that contributes to uniformity. It ensures that products as produced uniformly on daily basis. As a result, product quality is guaranteed. Secondly, the technique leads to maximized productivity. This is because it aids with the identification of defects in the process of production.

Topic Two: Definition of control charts

As pointed out by (asq.org, 2020), control charts refer to graphs utilized in studying the manner in which processes change over time. Control charts have central lines for average, upper lines for the upper control limit and lower lines for the lower control limit. Additionally, the mentioned lines are usually derived from historical data. Therefore, in the process of comparing data to these lines, individuals normally come up with conclusions as to whether the process variation is dependable or changeable.

Difference between variable and attribute control charts

As shared by (Terbeck, 2020), attribute control charts are usually designed for attributes data. As such, they monitor the process location and variation over time in one chart. Additionally, the mentioned chart usually define items such as font size, color, height among others. Variable control charts are dynamic in nature and they are utilized for calculations.
