I chose the film Crazy Rich Asians, which is an awesome film. An culture that is racially and ethnically different is the Black Americans. There are many different types of black American cultures. However, the poverty culture of Black Americans displays the biggest difference. "Culture isn't just a list of holidays or shared recipes, religious traditions, or language; it is a lived unique experience to each individual" (tolerance.org, 2013). The poverty culture of Black Americans is believed to be dangerous, when in realty all they want to do is Survive. Society stereotype the Black Americans as "less responsible, less moral, or less upstanding" (Bump, 2020), basically lazy and good for nothing. It is hard being black in America when everything is against them especially the laws. Kimberlé Crenshaw (2021) expressed the "law has played a mixed role in our history. It has enslaved us. It has justified disenfranchising us. It has justified segregating us. It has justified marginalizing us, criminalizing us" (para5). The Black Americans who are in poverty live in some of the worst conditions with a mindset that they can never make it out or they get comfortable on welfare, at least society believe that. Unlike the film Crazy Rich Asians and the culture of Asians, Black Americans have to deal with "flat wages, higher rates of arrest for possession of marijuana, higher rates of incarceration, a greater likelihood of being arrested at school, a lower likelihood of being accepted to top-tier colleges" (Bump, 2020). In different poverty areas of a black community, mostly know as the projects, the people speak a lot of slang or Ebonics. The slang is used for code words and a way to connect with one another. There are many cultures who uses the slang of Black Americans, words such as "lit" (meaning we are going to have fun) or "fye" (meaning something is nice). Sesali Bowen (2018) stated that "borrowing lingo from Black folks probably happens so easily because everyone is constantly sharing our language with the world on social media" (para3). The way Black Americans dress and style from that culture is different as well. Instead of suit and tie, they would rather wear designer clothes with a brand new pair of Jordan's. Black Americans are very hip and their music is more up tempo, beat box style. Not only are Black Americans hip, but their churches are very up beat as well. They are very religious, and most Black Americans uses the bible as their therapy instead of going to a legit therapist. The poverty culture of Black America have their ways. However, they just want to fit in society and become rich just like the film Crazy Rich Asians, and not be judged by the way they live.
