EXAMPLE FROM A CLASSMATE.THIS IS HOW THE ASSIGNMENT SHOULD BE DONE.
Amazon Go is one of the latest business strategies from Amazon. The idea behind this is that a shopper can enter the store by scanning a barcode on their phone. The customer can grab what they need from the shelves and leave. There are no cashiers, carts, or baskets available inside the store. Once an item is removed from the self, it is added automatically to the customers, and once they leave, their account is then charged. Implementation of EDI and ECR at Amazon Go would improve the transfer of real-time processing and eliminate the time associated with manually sending, receiving, and entering orders. A better inventory overview will also be enhanced, and stock levels would be more comfortable to keep up to date. Additionally, the time it takes for staff to create and process purchase orders could be reduced as the process could be automated entirely based on the collected data. For example, in the Amazon Go store, sensor technology has used the store to know when a customer removes the last jar of strawberry jam from the self. It would check inventory leaves with EDI to see how much more jars of jam are left in the store's storage area and the Amazon warehouse before deciding to submit a replenishment order with the vendor. This technology would be highly effective in reducing errors and delays, encouraging faster communication, and reducing operating costs. It will also help to strengthen the relationship between Amazon, its vendors, and future partners.
Amazon doesn't only collect data on customer purchasing habits, but it also uses CRM to manage employee productivity. We all know that there are bad apples amongst the bunch in every company. CRM allows Amazon to attract the best companies by streamlining their talent scouting process and utilize a system where recruitment is automated. Additionally, once a becomes an employee of Amazon. (Meyers, 2020) Anyone would be able to click on an employee record and see how the employee's performance is positively or negatively impacting the business's operations and potentially influencing the customer experience.
If Amazon Go were to expand globally, it would need to acquire information through direct perception. According to the text, direct perception gets all the senses involved. "It means seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling, or tasting for oneself to find out what is going on in a particular country, rather than getting secondhand information by hearing or reading about a particular issue. Some information is easily available from other sources, but sensory experience of it is needed for it to sink in." (Keegan & Green, 2020) Since Amazon Go can be classified as a specialty store, it is essential that not only do they do the necessary research to ensure its a good fit, but it is just as crucial that the potential consumers in the new market get the opportunity to see what the unique experience would be like. Microsoft used a similar strategy when they launched the Xbox in a market that Sony already dominated. They formed a partnership with the Association of Volleyball Professionals and went on what they called the "Xbox on the road" tour. The event took place with potential customers in different cities to visit an Xbox hospitality tent and try out the system.
