Discussion 10

In your initial post, please comment on your general approach to creating your statistical report and state at least one thing you learned from your experience. What were your overall conclusions and recommendations?

In response to your peers, comment on the conclusions drawn by your peers. Is there anything you can add to it? How can you take what your peers have done and apply it to your own field/career?

Response one,

This class has been a challenge, and I regret that I did not have more time to dedicate to it. I do however believe I have learned from this class. I am far more confident in analyzing the data than the statistical calculations.

I will continue to review our textbook because I understand the importance of biostatistics and statistics most notable in healthcare today because it is all about collecting, tracking, and analyzing data to determine significant trends.

I will admit I am glad the class is done but not because I do not want to continue learning this subject but because I am taking my graduation capstone class and I am exhausted and so ready to graduate. I am looking forward to putting all of the valuable principals, and theories to practice in my future career.

Good luck to everyone,

Response Two,

Honestly, I am very glad to have completed this course.  Knowing that next week I do not have to worry about statistics, makes me very happy and relieved.  However, I do feel like I have learned a lot in this class.  I now understand the purpose of statistics and its application in healthcare more than I ever have.  I also know how to use data to infer differences in populations.

This class has also shown me that statistics is a weakness for me.  I have decided that statistics is not a field or an area that I am interested in pursuing.  The knowledge of how research is conducted and how inferences are found, is an important concept to know in healthcare administration so I am thankful for the experience.

In the future, any math class I take, will be in person.  I do better with visual learning when it comes to difficult concepts.  I did better with the Khan Academy and supplemental resources than I did with the text book.

I wish everyone a successful journey in their education and careers.

Response Three,

Well, I would not use my approach for creating the final project because I went against my better judgment and changed the core of the project before my final submission and therefore was not successful.   I think that I got more confused with the feedback and starting changing my mind on what I thought was the right way to present the data (I overthought this entirely ).  I struggled with being able to separate out this assignment with how I present and review data in my daily job.  This assignment has taught me to slow down and consider the results that I present with more thought and also how to alternatively report data.

In the end, I did not think that gender affected the hospital length of stay after an MI.   I did want to know why there were more male outliers, what conditions might have contributed to their extended hospital lengths of stay.

My recommendations, ask more questions especially if things seem not to make sense.   My second recommendation don't give up, take what you did learn from this course and continue to build a solid foundation from that point forward.  Lastly, I would like to see how I can use stat crunch more in my job-such quick graphs it makes.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback over the past several weeks.  Good luck to you all as you finish your degrees.
