In this discussion, you will present an analysis of a single work (a poem, essay, set of letters, sermon, short story, or novel excerpt) taken from either the early period of Jewish American Literature (1654— 1924) or from the interwar period (1924 — 1945). Your analysis should provide relevant information on the author of your chosen work and the historical context in which the work appeared. Propose a specific interpretation of the work, or of elements of the work—its major themes, images, characters, etc.—built around one of the key terms we have discussed in class, or around related issues raised in class discussion. Provide evidence from the text to support your interpretation. Conclude by restating your interpretation and considering its significance in terms of Jewish American experience or identity.
