Data storage is a large part of the IT industry and data storage devices at the enterprise level are often rooted in the same hardware that can be found in your home computer. In week 1 we will start with the basic building blocks of enterprise data storage.

Background:

When determining the need for storage there are several things to take into consideration. Some factors which influence what hardware you might select include speed, cost, size of storage, read intensive or write intensive data access profiles. Investigate the different hard drive types, such as spindle drives, solid states, or hybrids and list their strengths and weaknesses. Investigate other factors in selecting storage types, such as cache, mechanicals (revolutions per second) interface specification (SATA, SAS, SCSI) and costs.

Write up a summation of what you found when comparing storage devise and highlight where there are strengths and weaknesses of those devices.
