Reflection Paper of a bargaining exercise
· Was it best to open optimistically or reasonably in this exercise and why? Relate what you or your partner did according to Shell's advice in chapter 9 about which bargaining situations call for which type of opening offer -- optimistic or reasonable.
It was best to open optimistically. Because it's Transactions, you don't have concern about the relationship. I was the buyer, and I made a wrong decision. I choose the wrong standard and made a reasonable first offer $16.2 million. Once I saw my partner accepted the offer such fast, I knew I made a awful start. I was even willing to pay the tax they own. Since my reservation point is $40 millions, I thought $16.2 is a good deal, but I was wrong. And I did not notice that there is compatible issue I could use. It's a good lesson for me. As shell advice, optimistic offer for the transactions bargain and reasonable offer for the other 3 situation, especially for establishing the rapport.
