I found this article to be important because rural development is sometimes hard to pinpoint. Not every area is the same which means there is not a "one size fits all" when it comes to rural development. This article gives six easy to follow steps to ensure a person understands what it means to ensure successful growth in a rural area. The first step makes perfect sense- find an area or county's biggest strength and start growing or implementing a plan from there. Do not try to find the area's biggest weakness-focus on the strengths and make it stronger. I also find the fifth step to be very important as well. "Each community should bear responsibility for its economic success, not the federal government". (1). The government does not live in the area that is under discussion, therefore they cannot directly relate and understand the issue at hand. On the other hand, the community of that area sees what is going on every day and knows what their area can benefit from.
