Have you ever read something that you suspected was fake news?  In this week’s reading you will learn about strategies for determining if a source is credible.  One of those strategies is the CRAAP Test.  

· Currency:  Is the information up to date?

· Relevance:  Is the information relevant to your research needs?

· Authority:  Who is the source of the information?

· Accuracy:  How reliable and truthful is the information?  Can the information be verified?

· Purpose:  Why does the information exist?

· How can the CRAAP Test help you when you look at news and articles in the future?

Question 2: Week 5

Neighborhood and Community Characteristics: The social ecology approach emphasizes the view that certain social and physical characteristics of neighborhoods and communities influence the likelihood of committing deviance and crime.Imagine that you are in a position as a community leader. There are several neighborhoods in your community with:

· high poverty rates

· low quality housing

· single parent households

Which issue would you address first, and what strategies would you propose to address this issue?

Social Mobility: Social mobility refers to our chances of moving up or down within the American class structure.  What do you think is the most important factor that leads to upward mobility? And why do you feel that way?

· Race or ethnicity

· Gender

· Social class at birth

· Hard work and education

Question 4:

Defining racism: The R = P + P formulation

· How would you define racism?

· Do you think power and oppression should be a part of our definition of racism, and why do you feel that way?

Question 5:

Sociologists work to understand the role religion serves in our society.

In your opinion, does religion bring people together or does it create more space between them?
