Discuss in Two pages what you observed in your examination of Jean Watson’s Caring Science Theory, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, your state's Nursing Practice Act (NPA).  Based on your examination of the below listed sources, answer the following questions:

1. What are the implicit ethical concepts that you found in the Caring Science Theory?  (Provide rationale and indicate specific ethical principles and/or provisions) (Use the Code of Ethics and the NPA for support)

2. Are there any explicit ethical concepts in the nursing theory? (Provide rationale)  (Use the Code of Ethics and the NPA for support)

3. How could the implicit concepts be made more explicit in the nursing theory?

4. What is your interpretation of your state's subsection on legal, ethical nursing conduct? (Include the provision or subsection in your answer).

5. Do you feel there is a clear relationship between your state's Nursing Practice Act and the Code of Ethics for Nurses? (Provide rationale)

6. Not all ethical violations are legal violations.  What is one example of an ethical violation that IS a legal violation based on your state's nursing practice act?

Activity 1 will be completed in two parts.  For the first part, go to the Nursing Theory Website and explore  Jean Watson’s Caring Science Theory  . When examining Jean Watson’s theory, use your ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses book.  Try to determine the implicit and explicit (if any) ethical implications of the theory.  You will also need to search for your state's nursing practice act.  Find the section of your state's nursing practice act that discusses a nurse's legal, ethical obligation.  There is nothing to turn in for part one of the activity, it is to prepare you for part two.

1. Read the article by McCrae:  Whither nursing models...  . McCrae, N. (2012). Whither nursing models? The value of nursing theory in the context of evidence-based practice and multidisciplinary health care. Journal of Advanced Nursing, 68(1), 222-229.

2. Read  Nursing theory: Its importance to practice . Colley, S. (2003). Nursing theory: Its importance to practice. Nursing Standard, 17(46), 33-37.

This article is a little dated, however it is still very relevant to nursing practice.  In the program, you will notice that we stress the importance of current nursing research, but in the many areas of nursing research, especially areas of theory development, you will have articles that remain an integral part of nursing literature over time.
