A survey found that more than 95 percent of businesses face some kind of need to manage unstructured data, with over 40 percent of businesses saying they must do so on a frequent basis. Companies that can best address both sets of customer needs could enjoy a strong position in the market.

Years ago, I watched a documentary that shared the story of Walmart and how they track weather patterns. It was extremely interesting: When a large storm is headed to a region, Walmart ships additional Strawberry Pop-Tarts to that region before the storm hits. Through data-driven analysis, they are able to shift their supply chain. They know what flavor to ship, when to ship and where to ship extra Strawberry Pop-Tarts.

Structured data is predefined format stored like phone numbers, Social Security numbers, or ZIP codes and it is Schema-on-write. in the other hand we have unstructured data which is everything that is not predefined format it could be any textual or non-textual, and human or machine generated. one example unstructured data is like weather data and structured data is like credit card numbers. unstructured data can help businesses to improve their customers experience by knowing have customers feel about your brand and you can get to know your customers more. a marketing can you unstructured data to see their customers purchasing patterns toward the brand by analyzing social media and discussion post that can give an idea of the business and marketing performance to keep what is working and fix any flaws that is going on with the product or service. for example customer service give the customer a place that they can state their concern or complaints about the product or service so that the analyze and research team use this data to improve what is not working and keep what work well so that the final product or service development is what the customer want and satisfied.
