Disability in the Media

This week's content covered disability representations in the media. The article you read provided you with an example of a content analysis on media representations. This week's discussion you will conduct your own mini content analysis on either a movie or a TV show that has disability representation. Please choose one movie or TV show to analyze from the list provided under the "disability in the media" section on Blackboard. You will need to watch (or rewatch) the movie or TV show in order to complete this assignment. Please set aside time this week to incorporate this into your schedule. 

To conduct your analysis, use the categories of stereotypes for media portrayals of disabled people provided in Black & Pretes' article (see Table 4 in the article). Write down any examples of how the movie/TV show portrays one of these stereotypes.

Note if you want to analyze a movie or TV show that is not provided on the list, please email me with the name of the movie or TV show and we can discuss if this can be an option.

1. Explain which category or categories of stereotypes for media portrayals of disabled people were shown in the movie/TV show. Provide examples and explain each stereotype.

2. Do you believe this movie/TV show is a good and helpful representation of disability? Why or why not?
