Continuing our discussion of Atlantic City and expanding the spectrum outward. After conducting my own research, I had a plethora of questions. Notably:If Atlantic City is to rebound as a destination attraction, how will it differentiate itself from its competition, notably Las Vegas? Does it need to start all over again? What about eliminating the casinos altogether and focusing on one aspect? Are casinos the only viable tourism product that will save Atlantic City? Do we have to view Atlantic City as a total tourism attraction, that includes casinos? Or should they stand alone? Is Atlantic City the attraction or is it one or two products?

This is my first work discussion: Casinos, by design, are meant to keep people isolated from the rest of the community, said Bryant Simon, a historian and author of “Boardwalk of Dreams: Atlantic City and the Fate of Urban America.” Gaming floors are designed with no clocks and, similarly, little natural light to give gamblers a sense of passing time. This means the visitors will be enclosed in casinos and would not have time around the city. Close of casinos will give visitors a chance to move around the city and be able to identify the opportunities available in the city. But irrational optimism should always be Atlantic City’s chief natural resource. The city should get involved construction projects at the seaside which can help the region try to wean itself from the monocrop of casino gambling and pivot to a more diverse mix of family-oriented tourism, residential uses, and higher education. This will attract more visitors which in return will improve the tourism industry.

Two examples of my classmates work

1- I think that if Atlantic City used the seaside to their advantage, they could potentially become the new Las Vegas. Atlantic City could be more of a "Orlando" for the North-East coast. I do not think that Atlantic City needs to start completely fresh, but they could bring in more resorts along the seaside and become more of a family destination. For example, if a large theme park was brought to the area, the tourism could potentially increase. Because Atlantic has the ocean right in front of them, they have such an advantage to create an amazing destination. I don't think casinos are the only viable tourism product that will save Atlantic City. However, I do think that some casinos are perfectly okay, as long as they are not solely relying on them for tourism.

2- If Atlantic City wanted to come back as a destination attraction, they must be offer something different than vegas does. But also they could use vegas as an example to help them know what to do to make a successful destination attraction, they shouldn't do exactly as las vegas but somethings they can do the same but should mainly focus on doing something that vegas doesn't have to offer. Atlantic city isn't in the middle of the desert like Las Vegas and they are surrounded by water. So having beaches can be an advantage that Atlantic city can offer that vegas can't. A lot of tourists love the beach and they could gamble and go to the beach so beach lovers might pick atlantic city instead of vegas since they have beaches.
