The department of homeland security is a part of the United States Armed forces and the only one in the Department of Homeland Security which has several departments working together for maintenance of security in the United States. (United States. (2016, p.18).The United States Coast Guard is one of the agencies with a mandate to ensure maritime security. This means that the coast guard is responsible for maritime security, stewardship and safety. The agency has various roles to execute; Ensuring maritime defense through securing and safeguarding cyberspace, prevents terrorism or subversion. Immigration regulation by enforcing immigration laws. Enforcement and administering of maritime law to ensure security of the people of United States of America.

Drugs inhabitation from entering or leaving the country through screening and checks in and out of the ports. This limits criminal activities which leads to social insecurities. Coastal ports and waterways security all over the country. The Coastal Guard most resent strategic plans are;

Cyber strategy, The USCG mission of maintain maritime security, stewardship and safety requires a clear and well defined cyber strategy for the Coast Guard to safeguard cyberspace. Coast Guard Strategic Intent, (Department of Homeland Security. (2004, p.36). This was since 2015 to 2019 strategies that seeks risks and solutions which are in the current centyry.These strategies are incorporated with the homeland security policies and missions. The strategy intent analyses the current challenges and seeks the solution in preparation for any disaster which would occur.USCG Human Capital Strategy, This is a 10year strategy which is for empowerment of human workforce through training, systems and resource allocation. This is to ensure that the work force is ready and fully prepared for carrying out the missions and responsibilities by equipping the workers with the necessary skills and resources. A Cooperative Strategy for 21st Century Sea power, all sea services have to work together for them to achieve their mission of maritime security. These includes; U.S Coast Guard, U.S Marine Corps.U.S Navy.
