DIG10 Game Design Introduction – Assignment Brief

Assignment 3 Brief: Game Prototype Presentation & Project Report – 40%

Introduction

This unit introduces you to the design of games with a focus on providing a framework for the conceptual design of games.

This assessment will provide you with an opportunity to develop and prototype the game design that you conceptualised in detail for your Assignment 2 Game Design Document.

For this assessment you can choose to create either a refined and developed paper based prototype, or a digital game that utilises text and images using the game engine Twine. If you have discussed the use of an alternative game engine with your tutor then you may use this to create your game prototype.

As well as your completed game prototype, this assessment activity also requires the presentation of your game prototype through the recording and presentation of a video demonstrating your gameplay.

Finally this assessment addresses your ability to reflect and critique completed game designs, and will be required to provide feedback to your peers on their game design presentation videos, critically analysing how their game design utilises the 4 elements of mechanics, story, aesthetics and technology to engage and immerse its players.

Considerations for submission

This assignment will be made up of several of your Weekly Study Materials exercises which should be submitted to your Unit Blog (located on Blackboard under the heading Unit Blog). The exact blog entries which will be assessed as a part of this assessment are listed under the heading ‘Deliverables’ below. Please note that these activities are required to be posted onto your Unit Blog as your tutor will assess your submission from here.

You may need to use third party references throughout your Unit Blog entries. These will need to be referenced at the bottom of each blog entry using the Chicago Referencing Style. Details for this can be found here: http://libguides.library.curtin.edu.au/referencing/chicago (please note all third party sources must be referenced in this format including visual sources such as images).

Prior to submission, be sure to carefully read through the provided marking rubric and revisit this Assignment Brief to check that you have addressed all of the requirements for this assignment.
