Nutrition & 101 Dietary Analysis Assignment Using MyDietAnalysis, Part 2 Points: 15

Objectives:

1) To assess your average caloric and nutrient intake and compare to estimated calorie requirements.

2) To assess adequacy of intake in terms of macro and micronutrients and its implications in terms of deficiencies and chronic disease risk.

3) Use the above information to determine changes in your diet to reduce your risk of chronic disease and/or nutritional deficiencies.

If you have access to the textbook online supplements, you can use the MyDietaryAnalysis program at this link: https://mydietanalysis.pearsoncmg.com/mda5/. In order to have access, you must have purchased a textbook that provided an access code. You can also purchase an access code separately from the publisher.

You may use another online diet analysis program if it can provide detailed dietary analysis. You have other options. My Fitness Pal is very popular and I like it, but it only tracks a limited number of micronutrients. Let me know if you will be using another website and/or program for this assignment. I am familiar with most of them and can let you know if it will work with this assignment.

1. Use the plan you created in Part 1 and keep track of all food and beverages (except water) consumed for five days. Include two weekend days and three weekdays. Use a method that will help you record your intake daily.

2. Focus on the 1 food group (or macronutrient) and 2 micronutrients you chose in Part 1.

3. The final products will be:

1. A printed report from MyDietaryAnalyis: Actual intake vs. recommended intake report. You will find this under the Reports tab at the top of the home page. A list of report options are listed on the left. You are welcome to print and review any of the other reports, but I only need this one.

2. A Summary (in essay format) that includes the following:

1st paragraph (brief)-Clearly identify the nutrients you selected for your new meal plan. Restate the meal plan that was designed to improve your intake of. Discuss any challenges you had during this process.

2nd paragraph –Compare your previous report to the current report. State your results. Be specific about your increase (or decrease) in the selected nutrients—this means you need numbers to discuss from your reports. Include here both the quantitative effectiveness (did the numbers change as hoped for?) and the qualitative effectiveness (is this plan sustainable?)

3rd paragraph- Were you successful in your plan? Why or why not? Discuss observations about implementing your plan and ease or unanticipated difficulties. Discuss any factors that supported your goal. Discuss barriers that impeded your goal. Is your plan sustainable? Why or why not?

4. Credit will be given for completion, attention to detail and evidence of thoughtful consideration of the assignment.

5. Submit your assignment as a PDF, Word, or RTF document. Please do not submit your assignment in “pages” or “odt.”
