African-American Personality Diagnosis Paper Guidelines:

*For your large paper, you will read an autobiography by an African/Black person and use the theories discussed in class to analyze their journey. Some examples include: The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X; Assata: A Biography by Assata Shakur; A Taste of Power: A Black Woman’s Story by Elaine Brown; Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by President Barack Obama; The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. by Martin Luther King, Jr.; The River of No Return: The Autobiography of a Black Militant and the Life and Death of SNCC by Clevelend Sellers, etc. Also, please see the list given out at the beginning of the semester with more options. If there is a book that you would like to use that is not included on this list, please see the instructor.

*This paper must be 8-10 pages (at least 2,400 to 3,000 words) of actual text (excluding the cover page and the Works Cited/Bibliography page); typed; double-spaced; with 12-point font; use Times New Roman; properly cited; and grammatically correct with your thesis underlined, page numbers, and a creative title. Please type in the word count on the bottom of the last page of your paper.

*I also need to see serious and obvious progress in this paper from the previous papers you already turned in this semester. Please look over the comments and fix all of your previous mistakes. Remember, I am expecting your most optimal capability with this paper.

*You will also be expected to use FIVE different sources from our class readings in this paper. This can include articles we have read and/or articles we were not able to get through this semester, but are still listed on your syllabus. If your research forces you to use additional outside sources, please remember that no Internet sources will be allowed (unless the sources are primary source documents). You also cannot use dictionaries or encyclopedias. Please use books, journals, newspapers, magazines, etc. This paper is worth 100 points and is due on Wednesday, November 28th.
