The main thing with being diabetic is to be able to manage your blood glucose level because too much sugar is bad for you since your blood already has very high levels of blood sugar. The other thing is you have to keep eating constantly to be able to main that blood glucose level.
The best way to control the blood glucose level is by dividing your plate into servings by giving the largest portion on your plate to non-starchy vegetables. The other smaller sections can include protein and grains/starchy foods. Adding fruit or dairy should be done but in limited quantities and generally you should end the meal with an unsweetened drink (water/tea).
Being active is also important and it is recommended to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day.
