Save a copy of your assignments: You may need to re-submit an assignment at your instructor’s request. Make sure you save your files in accessible location.
Academic integrity: All work submitted in each course must be your own original work. This includes all assignments, exams, term papers, and other projects required by your instructor. Knowingly submitting another person’s work as your own, without properly citing the source of the work, is considered plagiarism. This will result in an unsatisfactory grade for the work submitted or for the entire course. It may also result in academic dismissal from the University.

FOCUS PDCA Model
FOCUS technique is an evolutionary tool essential for creating strategic hypotheses for a problem. PDCA model on the other hand aids in the determination of the best possible outcome. FOCUS PDCA model eases the processes of problem finding and evaluation of solutions (Graphic Products, 2019). In the healthcare department, this analysis technique enables effective management and evaluation issues such as avoidable accidents. As such, this analysis expounds on fall-related accidents within the hospitals. This analysis factors patient.
FOCUS
The focus technique allows the evaluation of problem search. It records the origin of the problem and as such, initiates the amendment strategies (Graphic Products, 2019). In our case, it tries to evaluate the origin of this fall related cases. Figure 1 below illustrates the succession of steps taken in the analysis.
Find the problem. In our case, patients have been complaining of various incidences of fall-related accidents. For instance, one steep slope on the emergency entry section has recorded a large number of patient falls.
Organize a team to evaluate the issue. In consideration of the problem at hand, effective technicians may be grouped together. The problem might be technical considering the fact that there might be faulty wheelchairs and trolleys. The other sides of evaluation might be that most of the accidents are propagated by the emergency response team due to their inefficiency. As such, having a team inclusive of emergency respondents is important.
Clarify the current understanding of the issue at hand. The main issue is accidental falls on the emergency entry wing. The different hypotheses are that falls are purely accidental and may be caused by technical problems. Similarly, the falls might be propagated by emergency respondents’ inefficiency.
Understand the changes involved. The main changes that may be factored are an evaluation of facilities used. In addition, changing the entryway might be considered in order to facilitate the investigation. In case the issue is staff related, then an interior investigation on the staff is needed. Relevant evidence must be collected in order to actualize findings.
Select an optimum strategy for improvement. In case the facilities are faulty, then they need to be repaired or replaced. Significantly, if emergency respondents were inefficient then a deeper evaluation is needed. As such, this step ushers in PDCA evaluation criterion.

Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) Model
The PDCA chart below shows all relevant processes involved in the evaluation of the best solution possible. In consideration of hypothesis 2: in case an emergency practitioner was found faulty, then steps to better their productivity must be considered. First is planning the team of evaluators, then allowing them to implement the laid-out strategies. Next is to cross-check their evaluation and come up with relevant changes. Finally, is to evaluate the whole process considering all ideas tabled. From the hypothesis, in case a practitioner was inefficient, then the team can resort to laying-off, warning, or training of the respondent.
Figure 2 PDCA (Mind Tools, 2018)
In conclusion, FOCUS PDCA model can be used in problem-solving especially relating to inefficiency. As expounded, the technique evaluates each relevant step taken in decision making. As such, the final decision is comprehensively decided in consideration of all other factors.
