What Went Well

Day one of PN136 was a very different and valuable experience during my clinical rotation. I was able to perform a head-to-toe assessment on a patient and learn more about his health history. I also appreciated the education and guidance from my professor. We were able to participate in many hands-on activities, which helped reinforce what we are learning in class. Overall, it was a great learning experience and I feel that I gained important clinical skills.

Opportunities for Improvement

One opportunity for improvement would be for nurses to be more supportive in allowing students to shadow them and participate more in patient care. I understand that nurses working in a rehabilitation setting are very busy, but taking a little time to guide students and allow us to practice skills would greatly benefit our learning experience. This could help not only current students but also future nursing students during their clinical rotations. I believe there is still room for improvement when it comes to nurses helping educate and involve students in patient care.

Takeaway

During this clinical day, even though the nurses were unable to involve us as much as we had hoped, our professor allowed us to practice many activities and skills. This helped us become more confident and better prepared for our exams and future clinical situations. I truly appreciate the effort and support from my professor in helping us continue to learn and grow in our nursing education. Being her student has helped me gain a lot of knowledge, and I feel comfortable asking questions without feeling intimidated. This experience is helping me build confidence and become more prepared for my future role as a nurse.
