Amber Alert Memorial Policy

Amber alerts are child abduction emergency systems that are set in place for the sole purpose of relaying information about children that are abducted. In the United States, the word Amber originated from an abduction incident in Texas in 1996 after a 9-years old called Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered. The child abduction system alerts differ from regions in the United States to commemorate their victims. For example, Levi’s call is famously used in Georgia to commemorate an 11-year child called Levis Frady that the abductor killed; in Hawaii, people use the Maile alert in honor of Maile Gilbert, and lastly, the people in Arkansas use Morgan amber alert named after Morgan Nick’s abduction. Amber alerts are relayed to the community in different ways in the united states; some include; radio stations, satellite radio, internet radio, television, and cable systems. The authorities in charge of the abduction of children have also partnered with origination like Google and Facebook to increase the efficiency of relaying information to the community.

In most cases, the system of amber alerts is mainly handled by the state's police department. To report an amber alert, the information from the public information should consist name and description of the abductee, the suspected abductor, and the information about the number plat of the abductee vehicle. The amber alert system is then used to relay information to the community stating the child's description and the suspected abductor. To avoid false alerts, each area in the United States has its criteria for evaluating and issuing an amber alert. However, every jurisdiction in the united states should adhere to criteria from the department of justice, criteria’s includes; the law enforcement must ensure that the abduction has taken place, the child must be at serious injury or death, there must be sufficient information about the abducted child, abductee, and the abductee vehicle if available. The abducted child must be below eighteen years old.

Social Constructionism is a theory of knowledge in sociology that examines how individuals develop their knowledge and understanding of the world. There is no precise definition of Social Constructionism nor of the views of the sociologists in the field. Humans construct their own and each other's identities through their everyday encounters. In other words, the self is created through social interaction. It has long been argued that news media portrayals of crime are influential in developing the public's understanding and knowledge about the crime. Most criminology has been critical of news coverage of crime, arguing that it tends to construct or reproduce stereotypes. It would unjustly single out members of certain social groups like criminals, such as members of ethnic minorities and the poor, and selectively report some crimes(such as homicide while ignoring others; therefore, the Media have given a distorted view of crime the public. 

We understand that the term road rage became frequently used in the 1990s. But since the media had the attention as a form of strange violence, the public believed that road rage was a severe and increasing problem. Media is a significant influencer when it comes to social construction on crime. We need to keep a level head and balance the information on the news. We know the claimer have some goal for their benefit. Let it be their advertising or hoping to change the view on a certain crime or incident. Social construction coming from the news does not necessarily mean that it is real but manipulated to benefit someone with a lot of money or politics. They can make particular crimes their issue.They are media savvy and have resources to get their view out. They have access and a strong influence on policymakers. I'm not saying that every piece of news is manipulated, but the majority has its book of agenda. 

As I read the book, I came across the five frames that comprise the crime debate: Faulty System, Social Breakdown, Blocked opportunities, Media Violence, and racist system frame.The association of the social construction effort with other previously constructed issues is dangerous. The linkage between one social phenomenon and another issue that is already seen as harmful raises the concern and public importance of the linked social phenomenon. For example, drugs are often linked to other social problems like crime. Ideal offenders add the Ideal victim and the Ideal hero that will give you the memorial legislation. Megan's Law, Brady Law, AMBER Alerts. That, in this case, will benefit the public. Media helps create everyone's social construction with its influence.

Boston Marathon Bombings

The Boston Marathon Bombing was executed on April 15th, 2013, during the annual competitions held in Boston. The attack was anticipated to be a domestic terrorist event aimed at threatening peace when the events were hosted. Terrorists involved in planning and executing the attack were later arrested, which were Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Also, it was realized they used pressure cooker bombs which blew near the finish line of the races, thus ending in catastrophic outcomes (Clark et al., 2020). Three people lost their lives while hundreds of others had injuries, and seventeen lost their limbs. Terrorists were later arrested, and Dzhokhar argued he was motivated by his brother, an experience they acquired from the ongoing Afghanistan and Iraq wars. 

Wars encountered were unconnected and self-radicalized to worldwide terrorist groups, and therefore, the link attributed by his brother culminated to the atrocious act. The outcomes rhyme with the biological psychological theory, which exemplifies that crimes are associated with drawbacks of psychological development, personality traits, acquired traits of violence and aggression, and challenges related to mental illness (Fortune & Heffernan, 2019). Notably, Dzhokhar attested that he attained insight from his brother and experience of the wars between nations that were going on. Incidentally, the bombings aligned to predatory criminality since the information flowed carelessly without the agencies concerned enforcing strict measures.

Explicitly, the two terrorists acquired knowledge guiding the preparation of explosives from the Online magazine of Al-Qaeda. Security departments proved existing security gaps, such as allowing visitors to the stadiums where the events were hosted. Surprisingly, terrorists had the opportunity to set their explosives at the finishing line where all people eyed, yet none of the security teams detected the plans. Therefore, the crime committed would be predicted and appropriate measures adopted to contain the situation. In addition, biological, psychological theory rhymes with the incident since the colleague enticed Dzhokhar to engage in the terrorist acts.

A copycat criminal is a criminal act that is designed according to or enlivened by a past crime that was committed and that has been accounted for in the media or distributed in fiction. Hardly any copycat crimes are definite copies of the occasion that enlivened them. All things considered, the imitator lifts and duplicates specific components like inspiration, strategy, setting, and so on from the first crime that was committed. Grand Theft Auto is a perfect place to get some copycat crime ideas from. Grand Theft Auto is a game that without a doubt has so much violence in it. The video game is played in an open ended world that allows players the freedom to do whatever it is that they want in whatever way they see fit. As of late, the video game has gotten hammered in the traditional press because of lawbreakers referring to Grand Theft Auto as an inspiration and excuse for their conduct. I have played the game myself and it is very fun. You can do things that are illegal in reality and get away with it and if you don’t get away with it you just try again with no real consequences.  Video games is meant only for entertainment purposes but some people enjoy it so much that they get inspired to act the same way they do in the game. They seek that same adrenaline they feel while playing the game but in real life there are consequences to these actions and people can get seriously hurt. That is where the cathartic effect comes into play when talking about the game Grand Theft Auto and tying it to people being inspired by it to commit crimes. A catharsis is an emotional release and at a certain point, it feels as if there is so much emotion and turmoil that it becomes overwhelming.

A few hours of police drama on TV would convince anyone that America’s men and women in blue hold the toughest and most adrenaline-fueled jobs in the country. Because of all the action, police TV shows have been and continue to be popular fare. In fact, many of 2019’s most-watched shows are crime dramas or police TV shows, such as “Breaking Bad,” “Orange is the New Black,” “NCIS,” “CSI” and “Law & Order.” Additionally, in real life there is no drama or action shown like in the TV. 

However, while being a police officer is certainly exciting and rewarding, screenwriters commonly dramatize situations. Because of this, TV often gets the facts about police officers wrong. 

On television, officers are often seen in background of courtroom scenes, waiting as person after person testifies. Between patrol, responding to emergency calls, maintaining files and delivering warrants, police officers are too busy to sit in a courtroom. They usually come only to testify when needed and then leave.  

 

A jury may move in and out of the courtroom several times during a trial while lawyers debate points of procedure in front of the judge. Shows such as “Law & Order” often semi-realistically depict attorneys having conversations in the judge’s chambers, but sometimes the stories demand dramatic clashes in front of the juries, too. However, in real life, such scenes are rare, if not nonexistent. 

 

In nearly every TV show, the benches behind the lawyers hold an array of onlookers, including reporters, family members, police officers and random observers. Court in real life isn’t like that. A lot of cases never make it to trial and are instead settled between attorneys. The few that do end up in court typically don’t attract any spectators beyond family members and close friends.

    O.J. Simpson was not at fault for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and

Ronald Goldman as judged by criminal court jury. However, a civil court jury held

O.J. Simpson legally responsible for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and

Ronald Goldman. In a criminal trial includes different laws, different court

systems, and different burdens of proof. In Particular, the meaning of first-degree

murder in the O.J. case. First-degree murder is when the act be done with cruelty

planned and deliberation. And to imprison the criminal in the court, the case

against the perpetrator must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. In a civil case

for wrongful death, the petitioners had to prove only that the perpetrator 's

premeditated and unlawful act resulted in the victims ' deaths. The burden of proof

in the civil case was majority of the evidence a much lesser burden than is required

in a criminal case. Consequently, even though a criminal jury may perhaps

reasonably fail to find guilt beyond a reasonable doubt and found not guilty, a civil

jury may also reasonably find by a preponderance of the evidence that a perpetrator

's unlawful conduct results in civil liability. In the case of O.J. Simpson, a civil jury

found it more likely that he did not cause the death of his ex-wife and her friend.

But the criminal jury was unable to find beyond a reasonable doubt that O.J.

committed first degree murder. Legitimately, the outcomes do not contradict each

other. The civil court jury found him legally responsible and ordered him to pay

$33.5 million, which has more than doubled over two decades. And was sentenced

to 33 years in prison with eligibility for parole in 9 years. He was released from

prison on October 1, 2017.

 

    A case that was very similar to the O.J. Simpson murder case is the Casey

Anthony case, this case is about Casey Anthony who is most hated mom in

America for the murder of her toddler which many people believe that she killed

her toddler, she even told the press in an exclusive interview that she sees

similarities in her case with the O.J. Simpson case. Before Caylee Casey’s toddler

went missing, Simpson was found not guilty of killing his wife and her friend.  

And Casey Anthony was also found not guilty, and people believe that both

perpetrators were tried unfairly in the court of public judgment. Casey Anthony

now works for Patrick McKenna, who was the lead private investigator on her case

and who also worked on Simpson’s. and she’s living in McKenna’s South Florida

home.
