Developing one’s own understanding and interpretation of ethical codes of professional conduct requires self-reflection on one’s own core values and beliefs. Once a clear concept of one’s own values has been formally considered, it becomes easier to maintain ethical principles when confronted with complex or unethical situations and practices. As it is a mandate for counselors to maintain appropriate ethics in a variety of situations, being prepared is an important step in developing and maintaining professionalism.

For this week’s assignment, you will write a 4- to 6-page paper that describes your personal code of ethics based upon the APA Code of Ethics and NAADAC Principles in the areas of spirituality, cultural influences, personal bias, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status with diverse clients.

Part A (1–2 pages)

Describe your personal code of ethics based upon the APA Code of Ethics and NAADAC Principles in the areas of spirituality, cultural influences, personal bias, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status with diverse clients.

Part B (3–4 pages)

Examine your own personal cultural, spiritual, and socioeconomic bias by describing how your experiences have influenced your thinking and beliefs in each of these areas.

Read the  Case Study: Maria  and respond to how all issues need to be addressed within the context of your own personal ethics code.

· What is Ben’s responsibility to set boundaries with the client?

· Are there any ethical concerns requiring reporting of domestic violence/abuse in Maria’s case scenario? Provide rationale.

· What is Ben’s responsibility within his scope of practice towards Maria to provide adequate treatment for the historical causes of her PTSD while at the same respecting the client’s values and beliefs within her culture?

· What is Ben’s ethical responsibility to report the conflicting diagnoses to his colleague?

· Is it appropriate for Ben to continue as her counselor due to the legal proceedings against his colleague?

· In terms of responding to the subpoena, what are Ben’s options?

· Is Ben qualified professionally to give recommendations regarding Maria’s request for custody of her child?

· Define how your personal biases could interfere with maintaining objectivity when working with diverse clients. Use the case study of Maria as an example.

The paper should:
