Developing a Behavioral Interview

· Inspect the link entitled “Occupation Selected for Behavioral Interview” included in the Discussion Board section of your course’s web site menu. This link lists the O*NET occupational titles that have already been selected by your classmates for this exercise. Next, select an occupational title from those listed in O*NET that has NOT already been selected by one of your classmates:

http://www.onetonline.org/

Once you make your selection, make sure to post a message ASAP in this same forum entitled “Occupation Selected for Behavioral Interview” in which you list the occupation (and its associated occupational code} that you selected. You should post only the occupational code and the title, for example: 11-3121.00 Human Resources Managers. Please make sure to select an occupation that is not already selected by one of your classmates (you will receive zero points in this assignment if you do!).

· Inspect the tasks and the skills listed for this occupation in the sections of O*NET named “tasks” and “skills,” respectively.

· Choose five of the skills listed for this occupation in O*NET that, in your opinion, lend themselves to be evaluated via a behavioral interview.

· Prepare a table where the first column lists all of the tasks included in O*NET for this occupation. Starting on the second column, you should list the five skills that you selected –one per column. Then, indicate your opinion regarding the extent to which each one of the five skills selected is relevant for the successful performance of each one of the tasks listed using a scale ranging from 1 (“not at all necessary”) to 5 (“essential”). In essence, the table will look like this (Table 1):

· Write three behavioral interview-styled questions for each of the five selected skills to evaluate a potential applicant to this occupational title. There should be 15 questions in total (3 questions x 5 skills = 15 questions). Questions will be graded according to (1) the extent to which they follow the guidelines and recommendations covered in class for this type of interview, and (2) the extent to which they are creative and original. Make sure to specify the skill that each question is intended to tap into by using the following type of table (Table 2):
