Providing Feedback

Watch each video carefully, in light of the argumentation principles discussed in Lesson 5, as well as the delivery principles discussed in this lesson.  You also should consider the rubric for the speech recording itself when composing your response.

Feedback should focus primarily on argument strength and delivery, but also can attend to issues of arrangement or style.

· Arguments: Explicitly identify successful instances of claims, evidence, and warrants, as well as any instances where you note a weakness or deficiency in claims, evidence, or warrants.

· Delivery: Identify strengths in clarity, engagement, and artistry, referencing vocal and physical techniques to support your analysis. Also identify a few areas for growth in terms of delivery, again remembering to focus on specific techniques, rather than vague generalizations.

In both cases, your feedback needn’t be exhaustive: it’s fine to highlight a few items, so long as you prioritize the most significant strengths and shortcomings.  (In other words, don’t devote much time to gestures (an issue of artistry) if the speaker constantly mumbles--a foundational clarity issue.)  Remember to follow the advice from Lesson 5 about effective feedback, as well, including providing more positive comments than constructive ones.

Post feedback of at least 350 words for each assigned speech video.  It may be helpful to compose your feedback in another word processor and then copy it over once you’ve completed it.
