Design Project Report Format/Requirements

A formal report is required for this assignment. The words limit is about 2500, can be slightly less or more. The report should be presented in the following format:

1. A title page with module code, assignment title, your name and P number.

2. Introduction: a brief introduction of this assignment and its objectives.

3. Background information and research: based on your research, provide some background information relevant to the assignment, e.g. metal forming, blanking, tool steels, and surface treatments.

4. Design specification, any calculation involved in defining the clearance.

5. Design process, 3D model, assembly, 2D drawings.

6. Stress analysis and discussion.

7. Material selection: give reasons why you select a particular material and why not other materials, a description of the structure and properties of the selected material and its expected performance. You need to do some in-depth research and make use of the CES package.

8. Surface treatment selection and analysis: give reasons why you select a particular surface treatment and why not other treatments, a description of the surface treatment process and the resultant surface properties of the selected treatment. You can make use of the CES and need to do some in-depth research.

9. Conclusions: Draw conclusions about your work.

10. References: a list of references, each of which must be cited in the main body of your report. You can use any referencing style, but it must be consistent.

The deadline for submission is midnight, Thursday, 21 March.

All submission must be electronic via the “CW Assignment” folder in the Blackboard shell, by clicking “CW1-Design project”, and attach your report file(s).
