Word Definition and Association with Experiences

In conversations and the identification of personal input in life experiences, various encounters can be explained in words that hold complex sentimental meanings but are short and simple. Value upon these words is made simple in the way they are presented and their meaning during the specific use. As such, three words are identifiable simple yet hold very complex sentimental value when used (Lumen Learning, n.d). The following choice words fit that category, territorial space, connotation, and egocentricity.

Territorial space ownership of personal physical surrounding and thus a definitive aspect in recognition of the most intimate form of privacy (Verderber et. al., 2013). Within the words itself, there is the establishment of boundaries, identifiers that lead to the association of a known element to the unspoken and with that realization of the impact of that space to the general direction of the conversation of existence within that space. The other word is connotation which means additional meaning that is associated with words hence an implicit linkage of word to a feeling or a situation that is not bounded by the literal meaning of the word (Mirriam Webster, 2011). As such, the word invokes sentiment that a group of people or an individual can associate in a way that does not need further understanding. Finally, there is egocentricity which definitively means a selfish interest in oneself in a way that allows exclusion of all others and thus a feeling of closure and vanity (Mirriam Webster, 2011). All three words are associated with sentiments and in their pronunciation and tone of vocalization, and elements of invoked meaning can be perceived clearly.

Whenever I play charade with family or friends, I have found out that there are always two people who are in sync with each other so much no matter how absurd some gestures may seem to others. It took me a long time in life to be comfortable with socializing other than just reading and my friends always alluded that my seclusion and introverted nature was an egocentricity that would eventually make me lonely forever. There way 0f taking me out of my shell was to invade my territorial space and ask me to play charade. Many of these games meant that I had to sit and watch the innuendos and the inside jokes get displayed o me like a trophy which ended up leaving me feeling left out even more. The idea of socializing to me was knowing that they were there somewhere and would be available when needed so I never understood the concept of the game when it made me so uncomfortable. To others, the charade is associated with happiness, sharing, and socializing but to me, it is a word with an unhappy connotation. I strongly associate charade with exclusion and the feeling of being unwanted in a way that gives loneliness even when surrounded by people. So, it is no surprise that the tone of the word reflects as a mood dampener in my opinion even years later. To date, I would rather watch a movie where we don’t have to talk to each other or participate in activities that would lead to second-guessing each other.
