What is the main idea or thesis of your chosen news story?

The main idea of the news story is provide proof of how insufficient sleep undermines emotional adaptation to a frustrating environment. When individuals get insufficient sleep by altering their sleeping patterns, it is more likely that their adaptation to noise or other irritating sounds may be compromised. The study proves that through getting a good night's sleep, the level of anger and emotional adaptation may be reduced significantly. A relaxed mind is able to adapt to irritating environments easily.

Identify and describe the major pieces of evidence

To support the argument that insufficient nights of sleep increase anger levels, research was conducted on 202 college students. Some of the students were requested to alter their sleeping patterns by reducing it by at least five hours. The results indicated that those who slept for five hours experienced higher levels of anger compared to the rest who got usual sleep.

The research team also conducted similar research on 147 community residents. After randomly requesting part of the population to restrict their sleep, they were exposed to irritating noise to assess their anger. The results indicated that less sleep undermined emotional response to frustrating circumstances and thus increased the levels of anger.
