Eighth-largest water, and sixth-largest wastewater utility (based on population served) in the United States.
There are 2,624 budgeted positions and annual operating revenues of more than $546 million.
Primary source of all drinking water in Miami-Dade County is the Biscayne Aquifer.
Water tested more than 150,000 times a year to ensure compliance with federal, state and local drinking water standards.
Water Distribution System consists of approximately 7,739 miles of pipe, 124,000 valves and 38,331 fire hydrants.
Three regional water plants, five smaller plants (in South Miami-Dade) treat an average of 310 million gallons of water on an average day.
Provides direct (retail) service to 422,016 water customers and 339,927 wastewater customers (homes, apartments and office buildings, etc.).
Provides wholesale water service to 15 municipalities and wholesale wastewater service to 12 municipalities, as well as water and wastewater service to the unincorporated areas of the County.
Sewer Collection System consists of 1,039 (1,020 County-owned and 19 maintained by other entities) pump stations, as well as 6,271 miles of gravity, force main pipes and laterals.
Three wastewater treatment plants treat approximately 269 million gallons per day.
