Reflection on Self-Assessment Finding
Relationship management, social awareness, and self-management are the four pillars of emotional intelligence. All four of these crucial elements are pivotal in helping executives manage their emotions and promote development. The capacity to understand and sympathize with others, particularly those from other origins and cultures, is known as social awareness. Self-awareness is the conscious effort to comprehend oneself via reflection. Relationship management is developing assertive, courteous, and non-defensive communication skills, notably when giving criticism or resolving interpersonal conflicts. With self-management, people can restrain impulsive thoughts and actions, manage their emotions healthily, take charge of their lives, keep their word, and adjust to the changed conditions. This reflection will be based on the self-assessment findings on emotional intelligence (Pinos et al., 2018).
Areas of Strength
One of my strength areas is relationship management. I effectively use my leadership skills to persuade others and maintain personal inter-relationship, which is critical for relationship management. Relationship management is typically characterized as skillfully managing relationships by leveraging one's understanding of their own emotions and those of others (Pinos et al., 2018). In addition, I am an aggressive, courteous, and non-defensive communicator, especially when giving feedback or resolving interpersonal conflicts.
Another strength is social awareness, whereby I effectively listen to others. I am also effective at respecting the ideas and contributions of others. This is enhanced by my active learning skills, which are critical in developing social awareness. Social awareness is the capacity to recognize the feelings of others and what is happening in their life (Pinos et al., 2018). As a leader, I must put my favorite pastimes on wait to engage in social awareness. The ability to comprehend and empathize with others' points of view, including those from cultural differences and origins, the ability to identify communal services and assistance, and social and ethical standards of behavior.
The final strength is based on self-awareness, whereby I effectively use a written communication strategy to express my thoughts. I also use another strategy to express myself. Self-awareness, or the ability to recognize and understand your sentiments, is one of the fundamental characteristics of emotional intelligence (Pinos et al., 2018). However, being aware of one's behaviors, mood, and feelings as they relate to other people, goes beyond simply being aware of one's sentiments. Self-awareness is the first significant ability connected to social-emotional learning (Pinos et al., 2018). Self-awareness refers to the ability to correctly recognize one's personal feelings, beliefs, and values and how they influence behavior (Pinos et al., 2018).
Areas of Weakness
One of the weaknesses is self-management. I mostly find it hard to express my feelings without overacting when angry. I am also poor at maintaining a constructive and positive outlook when plans are hindered. If one engages with individuals daily, their ideas and points of view will gradually penetrate their thinking. A positive outlook is always tough to maintain, and it can be challenging if you find yourself in terrible work. Self-management is the capacity to control one's impulsive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; to regulate one's emotions healthily; to take charge; to keep one's word, and to adapt to changing circumstances (Pinos et al., 2018). Self-regulation, also known as self-management abilities, is an essential component of emotional intelligence (Pinos et al., 2018).
Most Surprising
One of the most surprising concepts is self-management emphasis based on the ability to maintain a constructive and positive outlook when plans are hindered. While being surrounded by positive individuals is crucial, keeping one's optimistic outlook is also critical. If keeping a positive attitude at work is challenging. It might be tough to keep a cheerful attitude when the days are dark and dull. A positive attitude toward learning can boost memory center activity and predict success without complicating factors such as IQ.
The most surprising thing about this is that I thought I knew myself well. Self-management abilities increase productivity, enhance job performance, and complete professional objectives (Pinos et al., 2018). Self-management training can help people become more employable and better manage their professional paths. Self-management abilities aid in regulating and controlling one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors (Pinos et al., 2018). Using these abilities, one can complete the task one intend to perform. Similar to this, being able to regulate oneself may make establishing goals more successful.
The second surprising aspect is overreacting or becoming emotional, which I thought I was not. I may react defensively if I lack the courage to talk aggressively or suffer social anxiety. A reaction to guilt or shame, if someone brings up a topic related to what I am feeling horrible about, I may respond defensively. Making the wrongdoer feel alone increases defensiveness in reaction to wrongdoing. When someone feels personally attacked, defensive behaviors are a typical reaction, but they can impair our capacity to see issues and discover solutions (Pinos et al., 2018).
I also found relation management surprising since one has to interact with an individual effectively. The key to long-lasting intimate relationships is emotional intelligence (EQ), partly because it increases our awareness of the significant and subtle changes that continually occur in ourselves and others (Pinos et al., 2018). The capacity to develop relationships with people that offer value is known as relationship management. A person with excellent interpersonal skills knows the need to form connections with people, including those with whom they do not get along.
Least Surprising
The least surprising aspect is based on social awareness since I have for a long time been working on it. I have perceived that one has to ensure they have appropriate social skills to interact in societal institutions and the workplace effectively. People must become socially conscious or socialize to form wholesome connections and make wise judgments. Social awareness is crucial for our emotional well-being and helps us build better relationships and communication abilities. We must be able to identify our own emotions before we can recognize the feelings of others. This self-awareness is a crucial skill for putting our sentiments in perspective concerning those of people around us. Reading facial expressions, body language, and speech intonation are all part of recognizing emotions (Pinos et al., 2018).
Areas for Professional Growth and Development
Professional development generally refers to acquiring new abilities and work experience that can assist an individual in achieving a career objective. Social awareness is one of the topics (Mizell, 2020). People who lack social skills stand out due to their growing importance. The capacity to examine the viewpoints of other people, groups, or communities and to use that understanding in interactions with them is the basic idea behind social awareness (Mizell, 2020). Our understanding of professionalism in the workplace will improve due to social awareness abilities, which also make it simpler to exchange information, communicate, and work together with others. From a personal standpoint, social awareness is crucial for creating social bonds that help us lead prosperous and peaceful lives.
Among the aspects of social awareness that are crucial to professional development include respecting the ideas and the contribution of other persons. This is critical as one gets new ideas on a particular phenomenon. The idea is linked to active listening, which facilitates connecting the team's ideas, hearing other viewpoints, and avoiding misunderstandings. A good team leader makes sure that everyone feels heard and valued.
Another aspect is based on listening to others to get their feelings. Empathy may demonstrate profound regard for colleagues and indicate that you care in any profession instead of merely following norms and regulations. Everyone may feel like a team under the direction of an empathetic leader, which boosts loyalty, productivity, and morale. In addition, one can learn about other people's ideas leading to professional development.
Another area for professional development is self-management (Giorgi et al., 2018). Self-management abilities are the capacity to govern and control one's behaviors, emotions, and thoughts (Giorgi et al., 2018). With these abilities, one can do the tasks they are assigned. Similar to this, being able to regulate oneself may make establishing goals more successful. In addition, these talents allow one greater professional autonomy, resulting in more intriguing chances.
One of the most beneficial things individuals can do for their careers is independently taking charge of our futures. On the surface, it seems clear that self-management is essential since it is a fundamental life skill. Nobody likes being around someone who cannot seem to manage themselves in various circumstances successfully. Another form of self-management is to keep your emotions and conduct under control. Even yet, it is normal to have both pleasant and negative feelings. Controlling how those act in situations might be helpful too.
Among the skills critical for professional development associated with self-management include proper time management. Since managing your time is a crucial component of managing oneself, someone with solid time management abilities is likely a competent self-manager. In addition, since they know, they might not have enough time to do some jobs and that another person might help get the work done, competent time managers are frequently good delegators. Learn when to say no to requests and when to seek help, in addition to managing your time to finish all chores by the due date. These time-management techniques will enable one to prioritize their chores, stay on target, and feel more in control of their time and, eventually, their career.
The final area is relationship management, which significantly influences one's interaction in their professions. Relationship management has always meant preserving healthy and wholesome interactions with a company's clientele. The art of relationship management is persuading others to become their best selves. People are known to become like the people we spend time with. With those individuals they spend something as significant as time with, one must create an environment where growth happens naturally. Therefore, maintaining a positive atmosphere is vital in all their life interactions. Mostly, it comes down to how successfully one can persuade others. This is crucial for professional advancement as it offers a lot of information that one gains from other persons that one may not have. In addition, relationship management is critical for brainstorming, which addresses some emerging issues in specific professions.
One of the most critical aspects needed for professional development is practicing high standards of professional integrity. One's performance, reputation, and ability to be productive are all strongly influenced by their capacity to retain professional integrity at work. Professional integrity requires experience, moral fortitude, and self-awareness. Professional integrity is a set of guidelines that each chosen profession must follow to uphold its commitment to honesty. A professional of integrity constantly aspires to be the best version of themselves in all their dealings with others. For professional progress, it is essential.
Conclusion
Emotional intelligence refers to one's capacity to comprehend and regulate emotions and those around them. People with high levels of emotional intelligence are aware of their feelings, what they signify, and how they may affect others. The managing of relationships is one of my strong points. I successfully influence people and sustain my relationships, which is essential for relationship management. Social awareness is another asset since it allows me to listen to others well. I am also good at appreciating other people's opinions and efforts among the flaws in poor self-management. For example, it is not easy to communicate my sentiments without acting out when I am furious. The four components covered in the previous section make up emotional intelligence. The most important factors in one's professional development are self-awareness, relationship management, and social awareness. They help one better understand himself and get the necessary professional abilities.
