Directions for Artist Research Critique & Reflection
Due Date: Sunday, FEBRUARY 18, 2024 (by 11:59 PM)
30% of your grade
Consists of TWO PARTS:
Part 1 – PowerPoint Presentation – 10-15 slides
Part 2 – Artist Statement/Reflection – 1-2 Slides
You are to find an artist to research and a piece of his/her artwork to critique, preferably one you can personally see in a gallery or museum. If you can take a picture of it, please do and attach it to your paper. If you are unable to get to a gallery/museum, you may use an artwork from your textbook or from the list of online museums/galleries (list at the bottom of these directions & a separate document).
Part 1: PowerPoint/Keynote/Prezi Project/Google Slides – 10+ slides (it’s okay to go over 10 slides, but don’t go crazy! )

· FELDMAN METHOD CRITIQUE
-You must choose ONE piece of artwork created by the artist you selected and write a complete critique using the Feldman Method.
-Cover as many of the following items as are applicable in your PowerPoint slides – use 2+ slides per topic.

INTERPRETATION
Interpretation attempts to get at the meaning of the artwork. Use the information learned from the above two sections in order to try and interpret what the artist was attempting to achieve with this artwork.

JUDGMENT
Judgment, the final step, is often the first statement that is expressed about an artwork before it has really been examined. Judgment in that case is neither informed nor critical but simply an opinion.

Big Grammar Issues to address:
- Italicize works of art
-Refer to artists by their LAST names (ex. Paul Cezanne - Cezanne or Mr. Cezanne)
-Capitalize art periods and names of people in that period (ex. Impressionism - Impressionists)
