Name_________________ Date__________________ Period______________
Document Based Question (DBQ) Final Project- US History- Mr. Javier
Reminders: ● As a class, we have spent significant time on historical thinking skills and DBQ writing. In
this project, you will create and answer your own DBQ. ● Please use Google Docs or Pages to work on this document. For this project, this is
much more efficient than using Notability. ● Please type this assignment in Times New Roman, Font Size 12. ● Please remember that this is individual work. All assignments will be submitted to Turn It
In. ● Feel free to message me for any questions you have. ● Once you are finished with the project, please delete all the instructions. Just keep the
steps and the parts you typed. Step 1: Choose a topic that we have studied this semester that you are interested in. Here are the topics we studied this semester:
● Spanish-American War and Imperialism ● World War I ● World War II- rise of dictators, impact, fighting, and aftermath of WW II ● Trial of the Nazi Julius Streicher (or you can choose another Nazi leader) ● Cold War
Type your topic here ______________________________ Step 2: Create an essential question you are interested in answering.
● The questions should be open-ended (require more than a one word answer, like yes or no).
● It should not be a question we already answered in class. ● The question should involve two sides which could lead to a debate. ● Utilize the following words to help you think of a question: Explain, Discuss, Describe,
Evaluate, How, Does, Should ● Good examples
○ How should we remember the dropping of the atomic bomb? ○ Did World War I lead to progress in society? ○ Should the US have done more to prevent the attack on Pearl Harbor? ○ Is propaganda necessary to win a war? ○ How did the Nazis become so evil?
DBQ PROJECT FINAL- US HISTORY 2
● Bad examples ○ Explain if Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a violent video game or not. ○ Evaluate the extent to which Nike Air Force Ones are shoes. ○ (Both of these questions have obvious answers)
Type your essential question here_____________________________ Step 3: Explain background information on your chosen topic and question.
● In other words, what was going on in the world, the country, and the region during your topic of choice?
● Also, answer the following: ○ Who was involved? ○ Where did this happen? ○ When did this happen? ○ What happened? ○ Why did this happen?
● This should be a paragraph minimum. ● You can use the assigned readings (or another reliable source, like History.com) to find
this information. ● For example, suppose I chose the topic, How should we remember the dropping of the
atomic bomb? I would go back into my readings and briefly explain: ○ who was involved with the atomic bomb ○ where was it created ○ where was it dropped ○ when was it created and dropped ○ what happened with the atomic bomb ○ why was the atomic bomb created ○ why was it dropped ○ what was going on in the world when it was created
