SECTION 1. BUSINESS PROBLEM AND PROJECT SCOPE

1.1 Introduction Basic Comment by Author: You have not added much from the last version. Include an interesting fact, statistic, or comment that catches the attention of your reader which is relevant to your topic and project. Orient the reader to the Capstone project focus and area of interest. Ensure a thesis sentence exists

With globalization becoming more popular in the business environment, many organizations and businesses are heavily relying on supply chain systems to facilitate interconnectivity between businesses and their potential markets. Therefore, proper supply chain management is extremely critical in business operations especially for those companies or organizations with global operations. The London School of Business and Finance researched on the role of supply chain management in 2018 made the following establishment: Many giant companies like Amazon Inc. and Walmart heavily rely on streamlining their supply chain to remain competitive in the customer-oriented market (citation). Comment by Author: Make sure you paragraphs are “flushed to the left so there are no formatting issues.

Moreover, the business philanthropist Warren Buffet argued during an interview with the New York Times that more technologies are needed to increase supply chain efficiency since it holds the future of many businesses that rely on it to expand their global operations (Sorkin, 2020). Hence, there is a need to come up with business and tech-oriented strategies to improve the efficiency of many global supply chain systems. Currently, many SMEs are finding it hard to remain competitive in the global market due to the high cost of business operations. This is because complex supply chain systems make business transactions time-consuming. Consequently, integration of technologies like Enterprise Resource Planning and Data Analytics in the supply chain system holds a breakthrough for businesses and is likely to influence global operations of many businesses positively (Lamba & Singh, 2017). And if streamlining of supply chain networks is not done, businesses face incurring higher operational cost, and an eventual reduction in revenues. Companies should seek to finesse their supply chain management system to reduce costs and liabilities. Efficient supply chain management systems improve the negotiating power of companies to acquire better products in the shortest time possible. Comment by Author: Spell out abbreviations the first time in each section

1.2 Capstone Topic Basic Comment by Author: Include information about your DBA specialization, the project focus and topic, and overarching information. Explain how the project aligns with your specialization. Include at least one to two citations for support. [One half to one page] Some of the information is here, but not connected specifically. The only notable changes from last version was the breakdown of paragraphs, and 1 sentence.

Supply chain management improvement is a major competitive advantage for companies today. Upon the introduction of supply chain management in 1980 (Dixit, 2018), key business operations were integrated, from original suppliers to the end-users. However, times have changed, and competitors have also incorporated supply chain management systems in their organizations. This incorporation has mainly been through digital platforms (Heizer, Render & Munson, 2014). Hence, there is a need to gain a competitive advantage by finessing the current supply chain management processes (Heizer, Render & Munson, 2018). Comment by Author: What exactly are you meaning to do?

The specialization of this DBA is the improvement of the supply chain management system to reduce costs and liabilities in the companies. According to Dixit, some companies are still using the traditional supply chain management method which focuses only on the flow of materials in the organization. This is a costly approach. There are key processes in supply chain management that can be improved. Supply chain activities like logistics, sourcing, product development, and information systems all have the potential to be improved into efficient processes. Comment by Author: This is not a sentence here.

The project's focus is increasing a company’s revenue by reducing the costs incurred in the numerous supply chain processes. It is possible to increase profits without having to increase sales (Yagin, 2020). This tactic is executed through the intricate management of all phases in the supply chain of the company (Masoudipour, Amirian & Sahraeian, 2017). This project focuses on the DBA by aligning the various tactics that company stakeholders can use to minimize problems in the supply chain. The minimization of supply chain issues is related to the improvement of the supply chain activities/processes which reduces costs and increases company revenue and profits (Papadopoulos, Zamer, Gayialis, Tatsiopoulos, 2016).

1.2.1 Problem of Practice Not proficient/ Basic Comment by Author: No changes from last version. Comment by Author: Describes the general problem and the specific business problem identified in your DBA specialization scholarly and practitioner literature. Supports the existence of the general and specific business problems using baseline data and at least five supporting citations published in scholarly and/or practitioner journals within the last five years. [1-2 pages].What is your general business problem? You specific business problem?

Supply chain management is one area where companies are losing a lot of revenues due to complexity in the supply chain procedures that leads to an increase in the cost of doing business (Meredith & Shafer, 2019). Problems in the supply chain may not be that easy to spot. There are minimal issues with the conversion process in supply chain management. However, the majority of problems in the supply chain are located in the different interfaces of different functions and parties involved in the supply chain. The supply chain is characterized by problems like difficulties in identifying customer-specific needs. There are also long procedures in some supply chains when discussing change. Long procedures lead to time wastage in the implementation of a better option in the supply chain (Papadopoulos, Zamer, Gayialis, Tatsiopoulos, 2016). Comment by Author: Avoid colloquialisms. Comment by Author: Avoid colloquialisms.

This indicates that the company will continue to lose revenue in the time wasted. Improvements in such an activity in the supply chain will lead to reduced costs and increased revenue for the business. The use of inaccurate data in the business along the supply chain will affect all the supply chain activities and the business as a whole. This is an interface issue that affects procurement and vendor sectors in the business. Company stakeholders and supply chain teams failing to avail for work is also an issue that could have detrimental effects on the revenue of the organization (Su, et al, 2016). Finding solutions to absenteeism by improving supply chain processes will reduce costs that could have been used to pay replacement staff or pay other workers overtime. Comment by Author: What does? Comment by Author: What activity? Comment by Author: What does this mean? Comment by Author: This is not well developed. You mention, complexity, long procedures, inaccurate data.

Failure to obtain the licenses needed for various supply chain activities could lead to fines which account for unwanted costs. Safety problems or quality issues could lead to problematic completion of the supply chain activities. Other supply chain issues like delivery failures, long stoppage periods, or failure to follow the stipulated design in the delivery of the product all lead to unwanted costs (Lamba, Singh, 2017). The main agenda will involve identifying the loophole in the supply chain and implementing ways to fix it. Controlling and improving the supply chain follows an integrated value-generating flow as opposed to fixing a few individual activities in the supply chain. Improvement of the supply chain should be a continuous process. The business platform is continuously changing with new rules of engagement being applied. Hence, older supply chain methods, activities, and procedures could be rendered obsolete. The incorporation of IT in the supply chain improvement agenda is one of the ways to ensure the company stays above competitors in the market (Dixit, 2018). Comment by Author: So IT will fix all of these problems?

1.3 Purpose of the Project Not Proficient

The basic aim of carrying out thise project is identifying the various improvements that can be made to supply chain activities to reduce costs and increasing revenue and profits. Below are the project needs and questions that will be addressed during the project. Comment by Author: There are lots…you should focus on an area. Comment by Author: There are lots…you should focus on an area. Comment by Author: How are you going to achieve this?

1.3.1. Project Need Basic Comment by Author: Again, you only deleted 1 sentence from the previous version. Comment by Author: Justify the need and feasibility of the proposed project. Transition logically to the project questions. Support need with at least three relevant scholarly and/or practitioner articles published within the last five years. Explain the project’s objective(s). [2 to 4 paragraphs]. You have some of this information, but the specifics are missing.

Companies are dealing with immense competition in the industry today. Deficient supply chain systems have prevented most of these companies from getting ahead of the pack because they do not realize the required profits of the organization (Christopher, 2016). Neither do they have efficient supply chain management systems to help ease their daily processes. There is a need to enable such companies with the skills and information on how to improve their supply chain processes. Empowered companies can reach the height of the top-notch companies in the industry (Dixit, 2018). Top companies in the industry have proficient professionals who have mastered the art of finessing most of the supply chain activities and transitions in their company. Comment by Author: Of what companies? Comment by Author: Meaning? Comment by Author: OK. We are on to something. You have identified something that you could look toward for a solution. You need to identify finessing and what they did to the supply chain activities.

Such companies can offer quality products and services to customers at little cost and losses from their supply chain. This project is achievable in the stipulated time because of the following reasons. There are sufficient companies nearby that will provide the researcher with the required data for developing a way these companies can reduce costs incurred in their supply chain systems (Dixit, 2018). The project objective is to lower the costs of the supply chain in a company to increase the company’s revenue and profits. This can be done by identifying and improving deficient supply chain activities and different interfaces of the parties involved and functions in the supply chain (Papadopoulos, Zamer, Gayialis, Tatsiopoulos, 2016). Based on this need of finding a feasible solution to the inefficient supply chain systems in companies it is important to address _____________, the following project question can be evoked. Comment by Author: The reader has not been described what the project is yet? Comment by Author: What time? Comment by Author: Meaning? Comment by Author: What is the data? Comment by Author: Dixit knows what your study is and what you are doing? Comment by Author: What company? Comment by Author: Who?

1.3.2 Project question(s) Not proficient

How will the interview of company personnel help achieve the project objective of lowering the costs of the supply chain in the company? Comment by Author: Read this question out loud… It is not grammatically correct. Comment by Author: The interview will help by getting a person with knowledge to answer questions. You obviously do not mean that his is the PQ. Therefore, what exact information do you need that aligns with the specific business problem? I do not even know if this is a qualitative or quantitative study yet. Comment by Author: Project Question: What are the (perspectives or opinions or attitudes) of xxxx regarding yyyyy? The structure of these questions are important as they “frame” or provide a foundation for the project. We must realize that questions may be fully or partially answered, refuted, or left unanswered. Whatever the consequence, knowledge is gained. When writing questions, know the current studies in the field, opportunities, and gaps of practice in your specialization.Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative inquiry project is to explore the (perspectives or opinions or attitudes) of xxxx regarding yyyyy.

1.3.3. Project Justification Not Proficient. Comment by Author: Justify the project purpose and project questions based upon gaps in practice found from searching the scholarly and/or practitioner literature. Describe the anticipated results/desired outcomes of the project. Explains the importance to individual or community improvement. Cites to published supporting articles from the last five years. [2 to 4 paragraphs].Very little in this section matches up with what you write here. You mention the importance of having an efficient supply chain management….nothing about your project.

Supply chain management is a vital component of business operations today. Efficient supply chain management improves communications, business networks, and relationships with suppliers, and helps to avoid delays in shipping or logistical errors. Good supply chain management also reduces inventory costs and improves the planning, and efficiency of the company’s operations. Poor supply chain management will lead to poor products and eventually bad customer service/satisfaction. Efficient supply chain management will help deliver the company from the shadow of competitors by improving the production process (Su, et al, 2016).

Rapid information transfer in the supply chain of the company is key. Companies can utilize the strategic advantage of real-time information to assess the current stand of the market and adjust their supply chain accordingly (Dixit, 2018). For example, information gathered on the demand for the products of a company will affect the procurement of raw materials needed to produce these products. An inefficient supply chain management system will lack such characteristics of real-time information transfer between the parties involved. This causes the company to undergo losses when they overproduce or underproduce products (Nair, Reed‐Tsochas, 2019). Cisco reportedly saved over $500 million when they reconstructed their internal operations and integrated its operations with customers and suppliers (Dixit, 2018). Comment by Author: No change from last version.

1.3.4 Project Context: Company or Industry Basic

This project will major on the small and medium enterprises and their supply chain management systems. Small and medium enterprises play an important role in the economic realm of today. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are a major impact on the development of national economies around the world and the global economy as well. Small and medium enterprises are defined based on their quantitative criteria, qualitative criteria, or both, and the definition varies in different regions. However, in this aspect SME’s are considered business that despite maintain revenue, and assets to the regions defined threshold, have also incorporated a modern supply chain management in their marketing. The staff headcount and turnover of the SMEs are used to identify them in these criteria (Kot, 2018). For small and medium enterprises to compete in their industrial sectors, they must have efficient supply chain management systems.

However, most small, and medium enterprises experience dissonant goals in their supply chains. There arise scenarios of uncertainties in supply and demand when there is poor coordination between the SME partners in the supply chain. This project seeks to address such instances in small and medium enterprises. Effective strategies that can be applied to deal with poor coordination between partners include integrating customers, distributors, suppliers, and producers. This will guide the long-term action of SMEs. SMEs should incorporate the art of sharing information in real-time throughout the supply chain. This will enhance the absorbency of the supply chain in the company. All partners in the organization need to be up to date with real-time information and supply it throughout the chain accordingly. Small and medium enterprises will be the key focus of the project.

There are various benefits that small and medium enterprises gain from improvement in their supply chains. Small and medium enterprises experience high-quality products, lower costs in the supply chain processes, improved customer service, and reduced risks in the supply chain of SME. The main aim of this project is to assist small and medium enterprises to achieve reduced costs in their supply chain which will help them attain improved revenue and profits. However, other side benefits of improving supply chain management in small and medium enterprises include improved service, higher product quality, shortened product development, and higher market participation (Genovese, Acquaye, Figueroa, Koh, 2017). Comment by Author: This previous statement still apply given that there were no changes from the previous version - come up with a rigorous definition of a “small and medium enterprise.” Look up several creditable definitions of SME (from the SBA for example, and other sources). Cite them, and using those, come up (or adopt) a definition that applies to your study. That will define your population. For example, one of the requirements of your population will be SME’s that have some sort of supply chain set-up. A small business that does not have or need supply chain would not be of interest to you, but would qualify for your study unless you define your population rigorously

1.4. Doctor of Business Project SpecificationsNot Proficient Comment by Author: This section includes the importance of the project and the approach for the project. Include, here, a brief introduction and transitionary paragraph (3 sentences) which set the stage for the next two sectionsThis is not done.

This section of the project dissects the importance of the project to business practice and practitioners in this field. Additionally, the approach to the project is also expanded on in this section. This involves the techniques used to complete the project.

1.4.1. Importance of the Project Not Proficient/Basic

Deficiency in the management of the supply chain in small and medium enterprises has its penalties as well as advantages. The problem depicted in this project is the high costs that result from poor supply chain interfaces. In general, the project is important because it will provide a feasible solution to the plight of small and medium enterprises of incurring losses from their supply chain. Stakeholders in small and medium enterprises influence the achievement of goals according to their competency (Rebs et al, 2018) Practitioners undergo a beneficial process that results from efficient supply chain management in the following ways. They attain their economic objectives by advocating for sustainability in their supply chains. The problem identified in this project will illuminate the various stakeholders of small and medium enterprises who undertake these activities daily. Comment by Author: Deficiencies has its advantages? Comment by Author: The general business problem? Comment by Author: Why does it impact just small and medium business? Comment by Author: Who are these people? Comment by Author: Who are these people? Comment by Author: What is this? Comment by Author: What problem has been identified? Comment by Author: How? Comment by Author: Who? Comment by Author: Why this group? Comment by Author: What activities?

This project will act as a training program that can be used as a literature to help SMEs understand how their supply chain procedures can be improved. The problems and challenges that motivate the development of this project include cost increases for small and medium enterprises. This accelerates the losses incurred by the company. Moreover, the small and medium enterprise loses its competitive advantage in the market when its supply chain is not as efficient. Sectors of the supply chain likely to incur such losses include inventory, manufacturing, and distribution amongst the majority of the supply chain touchpoints (Rebs et al, 2018). This project will provides small and medium enterprises with the opportunity to overcome and address these challenges in the supply chain. Small and medium enterprises have the potential to be like large companies in the same market. Hence, this project is significant in helping small and medium enterprises improve their supply chain processes and reduce costs. Comment by Author: This is the first I am seeing this. Comment by Author: Meaning? Comment by Author: What does? Comment by Author: This does not happen with large enterprises? Comment by Author: How? Comment by Author: No changes from the previous version.

1.4.2. Approach for the Project Basic Comment by Author: You have some basic ideas here, but remember you need to do the following: Describe the specific study techniques you will use to complete your project. Include your process for collecting and analyzing information, and which techniques you will use and why. Include a preliminary reference list of data sources you intend to incorporate in the project report, including scholarly literature, technical reports, online secondary data sources. If you are collecting your own data, explain how (e.g., interview questions, survey, etc.). Briefly explain the data-collection procedures and why they are workable; and how you will analyze the data. Identify barriers and challenges to data collection and potential contingency plans should problems arise. [2 pages].

The major data collection method of this project will be from online sources such as journals, peer-reviewed articles, and scholarly articles. These scholarly articles will provide essential information from other historians and peers relating to supply chain management and small and medium enterprises. Additionally, questionnaires and interviews will be used to collect vital information from the operators in small and medium enterprises who come into contact with the supply chain daily. This data collection procedure will occur systematically. The relevance of this is it will help in keeping the researcher focused on the objectives of the project and the project question. It is also easy to analyze the outcomes later on in the analysis phase. The interview used in data collection will help the researcher obtain detailed information from the stakeholders involved in the supply chain. Comment by Author: You do not collect data from articles. Comment by Author: Where are you getting these from? What exactly do they entail? Comment by Author: What kind of data? Comment by Author: Explain. Comment by Author: How does data collection do this? Comment by Author: The information gathered from the interview is used to…..Now what happens from the words from the interview to being able to analyze it to results?

Personal feelings can also be identified through the use of interviews and this will help the researcher identify how the stakeholders react to different supply chain processes and procedures. Additionally, the researcher can ask more detailed questions during the interview whom answers cannot be found on the internet. For instance, the opinion of stakeholders in the small and medium enterprises about the supply chain. Questionnaires are an efficient way of getting information from a large number of people. Additionally, questionnaires provide anonymity that may not be present in interviews for stakeholders who would like their identity withheld. Collected data needs to analyze before it can be used to form conclusions. Data analysis will be conducted using qualitative research and quantitative research. Comment by Author: Do you want this in your objective data collection? Comment by Author: So you are going to make up the questions as you go? Comment by Author: Are you using this type of data collection? Comment by Author: You are using a mixed methodology? What exactly do you have in mind? This is a MAJOR project.

Quantitative research will entail the use of surveys while qualitative research will entail the use of questionnaires and interviews to analyze the relevant data. These data collection procedures are workable because they are easy to administer and analyze. The possible barriers to data collection that may be encountered during this data collection procedure include poor quality control, budget constraints for the project, issues that may arise with logistics, overload due to lack of enough personnel to conduct the interview and questionnaires, and lack of sufficient equipment and facilities. Comment by Author: You don’t use interviews to analyze data. Comment by Author: You have not told the reader how you will administer or analyze the data? Comment by Author: How does budget come into play in your capstone? Comment by Author: No changes from last version

1.5 Summary Basic Comment by Author: This is generally a good summary, but you need to make sure the previous sections are aligned.

This DBA project will investigate specialize in improving the supply chain management system to reduce costs and liabilities in the companies. The project's focus is increasing a company’s revenue by reducing the costs incurred in the numerous supply chain processes. The minimization of supply chain issues is related to the improvement of the supply chain activities/processes which reduces costs and increases company revenue and profits (Papadopoulos, Zamer, Gayialis, Tatsiopoulos, 2016). However, the majority of problems in the supply chain are located in the different interfaces of different functions and parties involved in the supply chain. There are also long procedures in some supply chains when discussing change. Long procedures lead to time wastage in the implementation of a better option in the supply chain (Papadopoulos, Zamer, Gayialis, Tatsiopoulos, 2016). Comment by Author: And what are they? Comment by Author: And your solution as per your study is what?

The incorporation of IT in the supply chain improvement agenda is one of the ways to ensure the company stays above competitors in the market (Dixit, 2018). Deficient supply chain systems have prevented most of these companies from getting ahead of the pack because they do not realize the required profits of the organization. Efficient supply chain management improves communications, business networks, and relationships with suppliers, and helps to avoid delays in shipping or logistical errors. Good supply chain management also reduces inventory costs and improves the planning, and efficiency of the company’s operations. Comment by Author: How will you do this? How will you measure this?

Section two of this DBA project will cover the literature review and project plan. The content of the second section includes the applied frameworks and data collection techniques, and historic business trends, among others. The third section of this project includes the results, discussions, and implications. Discussed in this section includes data collection results and data analysis, among others. This project will follow a defined project schedule to ensure that all project activities are completed on time. Supply chain improvement for small and medium businesses is an efficient means to ensure the reduction of costs and increase the competitive advantage of SMEs.

SECTION 2. LITERATURE REVIEW AND PROJECT PLAN

2.1. Introduction Not Proficient

This project will use several study techniques to review the Coca Cola company distribution supply chain and how they have incorporated technology to increase its effectiveness. A cohesive and well organized distribution network of a company plays an important role in the overall revenue collection from the sale of its products (Cao, Zhang & Zhou, 2016). Good management of the supply chain ascertains an increased number of sales at a reduce distribution expenditure. Into the bargain, it promotes efficient inventory management and thus cutting down the warehouse costs as well. Additionally, it cuts down on the delivery time of the products to the customer, which builds customer satisfaction and hence a wider market for your business. Comment by Author: This is not mentioned anywhere prior? Coca Cola is not a small to medium company.

The supply chain is comprised of all processes and resources that are inputted between the supplier, who sometimes is the manufacturer of the product, and the final customer (Hou, et al. 2017). Effecting the supply chain involves devising and improving the distribution network, which controls the movement of the product from the company to the consumers. Also, creating a clear and defined flow of information between all the parties involved as well as monitoring the flow of cash, both revenues and expenditure. This includes delineating and establishing payment methods and forms between all the parties. The basis of developing the supply chain is the movement of the goods hence it is imperative that the inventory is tracked.

The Coca Cola company has a supply chain that is multinational, and though decentralized in management, it remains centralized in its information reporting (Animashaun, 2017). Technology has largely impacted on the supply chain, as in any other fields in business and economics. Within the Coca Cola company, the shifting of the supply chain management to a digital platform. It has enabled the company to widen their market and increase their overall revenue. Comment by Author: This introduction is different than section 1:You should describe the project study protocol (i.e., method, design, population and industry or organization) in one to two sentences (e.g., This capstone project will use a mixed set of study techniques, including a survey and interviews, of employees and managers of a Ford dealer in the Midwestern United States). You should define or identify your project and briefly point out overall trends in what has been published about the topic issues, gaps in practice, foundational scholarly or practitioner studies and articles, or theory, etc. You should also establish your position – or argument - for the need for the project and the organization of the review of literature. [1-2 pages].

2.1.1. Applied Framework Not Proficient Comment by Author: Identify key business concepts found in the literature, relevant to your work. When were the concept(s) introduced? How has the study of the concept(s) evolved? What is the relevance of the concept(s) to addressing the problem anchoring the project? Who raised the concepts and how has that individual or group of individuals contribute to the framework? Cite at least 15 articles in the scholarly and/or practitioner literature – with at least half of them having been published in the last five years. [7 to 9 pages].I do not think what you have here is appropriate to fit the criteria.

The supply chain management of any company is primarily and relatively dependent on the size of the company, and the durability or rather perishability of the product being distributed (Hou, et. Al, 2017). All other factors are considered as secondary factors and they depend on the management of the organization. In the event that the company is large, and operates on the basis of branches, the selected supply chain is either centralized or decentralized (Xie, 2016). Decentralized supply chain relieve pressure on the headquarter branch, and re-distributes the work so every branch manages its own inventory and supply chain. This system of supply chain management is aimed at increasing sustainability, and retaining the competitive edge of the company (Xie, 2016).

Haque (2016) suggested that management of the supply chain determines to a great level the market that the company holds. It allows every branch to fully control a section of the market, and hence manage the demand and supply of the product for that specific market. This concentration of markets is effective in both sales and inventory management and yields more revenue. Organizations may opt to incorporate an external supplier, and this aids in the development of an effective supply chain, particularly if the demand and supply of the organization is huge and there is need to concentrate on the production (Proch, Worthmann, & Schlüchtermann, 2017).

Technology has been employed in the management of the supply chain, with an aim of increasing the efficiency. This include the shifting of all ordering and inventory management to digital platforms. There is also real time tracking of order during transit, which increases trustworthiness between seller and the buyer, and allows management of time from both parties (Saberi, et al. 2019). The coca cola company is employing the block chain technology in its supply chain management, using it to control the financial transactions within the supply chain (Blossey, Eisenhardt, & Hahn, 2019). These advancements in technology and supply chain build a platform for increased efficiency and cohesiveness in management of the supply chain.
